Custom 2008 K9
I was encouraged by riding with some of you at Sturgis to participate on the site more...plus I really liked you guys and had a hell of a good time on the group ride (Thanks for organizing Ray).
Total round trip from Seattle to Sturgis going the scenic route through Lolo Pass, Beartooth and Chief Joseph Passes (twice), the Big Horn Mountains, Yellowstone then Highway 20 over Sherman, Washington and Rainy Passes was a sweet 3,423 miles. The 2008 K9 now has a cool 15K trouble free miles (knock on wood).
Had to share the dirtiest the Dog has ever been! This was taken on the way home in Western Montana just outside of Plains. We rode through hard rain in nasty construction where the road was completely gone and muddy for a couple of miles. Dog rode well, just had to be very careful to avoid the big pot holes which were hard to see as they were full of rain water. You can see the caked mud on the forward cylinder & exhaust.
Few more fun photos from the trip. We had heavy rain, lightening and HAIL coming back over the Chief Joseph Pass in Western Wyoming. I love that pass and this is my favorite sign on that road, have yet to see an identical one. We debated turing around & going back to Cody but being stubborn and not the brightest we decided to get to our destination on the other side of the pass in Cooke City. Thankfully the hail wasn't big enough to screw up the paint on the bike but if there was ever the #1 time I wished to have a full-face helmet, this was it. The rain suit and luggage did hold up very well though.
The Yellowstone section was cool, got to ride with the buffalo. That's my mirror in the second photo which was taken while we were cruising slowly with them.
The Dog held up well, no issues. My buddy's Harley needed a new starter in Sturgis and my other friend needed to purchase replacement bolts for his BMW at the True Value Hardware in Red Lodge, MT (original ones fell out somewhere in Idaho).
I'll finish this post with what I learned about many attendees in Sturgis: "I want to be original and have a Harley just like everyone else."
Rubber side down my friends.
