Dieseling???

Lately my bike appears to be "Dieseling", in that when I hit the stop button, it will continue to clunk along for a couple of seconds. At least I think that's what's happening, though while it's still turning after shutting if off, it sounds a bit different than when it's running. Guess it would be due to the extreme roughness as it chugs along.

This also doesn't occur too ofter, being only twice in the past week or so.

Anyways, has anybody had a similar issue? What should I be checking?

Hate to ignore it as I have learned the hard way (and expensive way) that leaving things alone tends to lead to bigger proglems down the road.

My bike is the '05 Chopper, and has just turned 60,000 miles!

like bbchopper said check plug, rich they will be black, lean will be white, running ok a light brown. and if it is not idling to high, check idle mixer screw and make sure it is set right.

Thanks guys! I'll pull the plugs tonight and will see how they look.

The idle is set correctly, and I always get 91 octane gas that has never been a problem before. How do I set the idle mixture screw? There's probably a "how-to" on that, huh?

could be a build up of carbon on the top s of pistons, at this milige.
is the bike stock?
what has been done to the engine? [heads been decked]
what fuel you running [octane]
pull the plugs check top of pistons for build up!
dose it smoke from exhaust on cold start?

Possible carbon build up.Run some fuel system cleaner through it.2-fill-ups.Use a good cleaner like Chevron Techron.

Granted, the bike has 60,000+ miles on it, BUT I had the engine rebuilt about 2,000 miles ago. The engine cylinders were bored, new pistons installed, and the whole top end redone (IE: New valves, valve guides), and a higher lift cam installed (600).

Today I road for a bit and had no problems.

Will check the plugs tomorrow as I'm put of town with relatives and with no socket wrench for the plugs.

Will let you know what I find out.

Thanks guys for the input!

Yep....a lean condition can cause that hot spot I mentioned. One plug should be cleaner than the othe rwith a vaccum leak.
