Dead 2005 ridgeback

I recently bought a 2005 ridgeback from ebay. I tried to start her up and all she does is tick and fails to start. A friend of mine has had the same problem and is positive it's the starter motor. Do any of you know what starter motors would be compatible with my bike and where I may order one from. She's got the 117 cubic inch OHV 45 degree V-Twin engine in her. Any help would really be appreciated.

X2 if all you get is a click, replace you battery with one that has at least 350 cold crack juice and see if that works. If the starter does not turn over fast I would say your starter is bad. Let us know and we can get you going.

First thing you want to do is a capacity check of your battery. Second, if the battery passes, clean and check all your battery connections and ground connection. Third, if you battery is weak, get a Braille B2015 or equivalent.

You guys r awesome.

I spoke to my mechanic who said that they had replaced the battery with a new one. The starter motor turns but that the starter clutch keeps slipping.

He recommends replacing the whole component, but I'm currently living in Dubai and have no idea where to order one from.

Any advise on where to get a new one would be great.

If you need a starter, would try Wild Works and talk to Curtis. He does rebuilds and can get you a new one sent over. He did so for another person here in Dubai.

If you are in Dubai, I am also in Dubai and could possibly get up with you and help you look it over and see if there is a need or if there is something else. The last one I looked at here, started out as a stinking run/start switch and low battery. Then somehow the drive gear broke when it came from a local shop in UAE, along with clutch slipping and other things.

If you would like to arrange, drop me a PM and possibly we can meet up and I can take a look. May not be able to do anything, but can at least confirm if the problem is as you indicate. I am in Dubai now and will be for at least another week.

Do you have tools and a place to work on it at?

I would not go on the word that your mechanic put a new battery in the bike. Test its cranking amps especially since you said all that "all she does is tick and fails to start". I bought a brand new bike with a brand new battery only to have starting problems with the new battery with a failing cell. Sometimes it would roll ride over and other times it would tick tick tick.....

Second, if you are sure it is the starter, send it to Curtis.

U guys r gr8. I really appreciate the help.

I've managed to contact the old big dog dealer in dubai, who is gonna have a look at the bike tomorrow. He's told me not to worry. Will keep u guys posted. Thanks a million and fingers crossed :2thumbs::cheers::D

Not good!!! I sent the bike to the dealer and they had a look over it. They seemed to have no clue about what the issue was, when I went to check up on their progress I noticed that the mechanic was going through the PDM. When I asked why he said that I had an electrical problem as the bike now does nothing when the ignition key is turned on. When I first received it the front head lamp used to turn on and the starter motor would tick, the front lamp does not respond now and the starter motor does nothing either. I took the bike back to the original mechanic and fibersnake was cool enough to come and have a look over her but we were not able to diagnose the issue. The mechanic has asked me to get him a new starter motor and said he would solve the other issues. I'm looking for a new starter now but have no confidence she will get back on her feet anytime soon

Here is the update... I replaced the starter with a 2.0Kw KustomWerks starter from double down parts, and the mechanic i have working on the bike managed to rewire it to get it started... what an amazing sound :):):) The problem now is that I need a new HCI (hand control interface) controller for the PDM system I have... its the part thats sits right below the battery tray... A picture of it may be found at this link
