Daymaker install question?

I am trying to replace my headlamp with the Daymaker many are buying thru Amazon. When I install the new assembly with the factory rubber seal/gasket, it will not allow the outer ring (chrome) to screw on deep enough to fit flush with the front edge of the headlamp bucket. Looking at the two assemblies, the Daymaker is about 1/8 thicker. My only option was to remove the rubber gasket and make a thin gasket out of heavy paper. I also noticed the Daymaker has a long wire plug on it and worried the factory wires would rub inside the housing, so I taped them up good to protect chaffing.
What are you guys doing about the rubber gasket? Thanks, Guys

I asked the same question and everyone is getting rid of them, I just put mine back in the box with the factory light. Good choice!

I had the same problem and I had to get rid of the rubber gasket also, there's just not enough room for them all to fit in there.

I had some old thin o ring material laying around the garage that I cut a piece and glued the end together.
Works good.

The Daymaker is a sealed unit, so I just removed the rubber gaskets also.

Like Mr. Wright said the unit is completely sealed. I can understand why they would use the gasket on the OEM headlight. But it doesn't seem like there is a need on the DayMaker. I left mine off as well.

While the lamp itself is sealed, the bucket is not. The seal will help prevent water from collecting inside the bucket where it can corrode it from the inside out.

Oh. I didn't even think about that. Obviously I'm not the only person that left it out what would your suggestion be on how to secure the lamp with the gasket in place?

I made a gasket out paper, heavy like from a file folder. I figured it would help prevent water from being driven past the bulb if caught in rain. Plus a small amount of cushion and barrier from metal on metal. There is a small hole next to the allen lock screw that should allow water drainage.

Ideally you'd leave it in..but it's just the way it is. I'm not too worried about the bucket rusting I think the Chrome will be pitted before that.

A homemade paper gasket wouldn't be a bad idea or you could grind down the backside of the LED bucket, it's plenty thick.

My actual only concern about this LED is that nobody has to Fuck with the light anymore and when it's time to get in there the damn retaining ring will just be stuck lol

That's true there is also a drain!
