cylinder head bolts

Looking at BD shop manual they say to replace cylinder head bolts once they are used
S&S tech said may reuse 2 times
Any one have problems reusing them????

If they are like any other head bolts the first time you use them they get stretched when torqued down. I personaly would not reuse them but others have with no problems but I would just rather stay safe considering it is an important part of the engine.

they are hollow for the stud to catch threads from stud
My Harley shop manual says nothing about replacement
but thats a Harley
I read where the stud new by being streched pull against head
when reused the stretch does not return to oem and help keep from loosing
I would replace till I found out the $96 replacement cost
I am sure they stretch but don't know of the pit falls of the stretch
Just wondering before I cut cylinder decks

Torque to yield bolts. Honestly... it depends on the wrench(meaning the mechanic) doing the torquing ,if you feel the break away or stretch before the torque is met...stop and get new ones, if not PLAY BALL!! I've reused them on mine and had NO problem in 2K miles.

I would replace them everytime $ compaired to another rebuild $$$. Just my .02 cents Been there did that:bang:

I don't replace. Never had an issue, and don't expect one. Just be accurate with a good torque wrench. :up:

Only head bolts that are tq to yeild that I have found MUST be replaced are Mazda 4 cyl bolts.
Mopar stuff I have reused with no problems.
I know this does not answer your question, just shareing my experience.
