Custom Seat Opinions

Ok guys, I would like some input on what to do for a custom seat. I would like to make the seat more comfortable while I'm at it if possible. I plan on customizing the seat and pillion pad to match.

I was thinking of a grey ostrich or snake skin (or something like that). My bike is white with metallic sliver flames. I don't want the seat to be the center of attention but would like something original. What do you all think? Do any of you all have experience with how to make the seat more comfortable?

Damn I made that pic huge. I will try to resize it.

EDIT - ok I made the picture a little more reasonable.

Polar Bear hide! Fur on! (Before they declare them endangered species!!).

My 2 cents,

Seatmaker for custom stitching on leather Beeza for custom leather tooling. Polymer pad from either for comfort.

I plan on seeing what seatmaker can do.

I want some ideas on what you guys think will look the best on the bike.

White is out for sure. I don't like a white bike with a white seat. There has to be some contrast in my opinion. I would like to play off the silver/gray metallic flames on my tank. A black ostrich with something in gray also might look good.

The BDM custom seat I had made for my chopper has gel pads and feels great. This color and style might work well with the paint scheme of your bike, looking at the one picture you'd included. Good luck, and have fun!

If you go this route, I'd go with the real ostrich skin if I had it to do over again, not the knock-off "look-a-like" as I did. I'd also probably shop around a bit, not just go with BDM. The Seat Maker advertised in this forum and Alligator Bob's Custom Seats are two places to start. Yeah real skin will cost you more up front, but it'll hold up better in the long run. My BDM custom seat's just over a year old and the grey color is starting to wear thin in a couple areas, letting black show through in small spots (and it's not the fake quill holes, either). The black leather flame inserts are holding up very well, though. I really like looks and feel of the seat, but wish I'd gone with real skin and shopped around a bit. Just my 2-cents worth...:zz2cents: :)

Sounds like you got Ostrich grain cowhide. Same as I took off BDBro's seat. The stuff I have is Vinyl and is on many of the guys seats here on the forum. Vinyl doesn't wear like that or leave black spots. It has a white backing. Plus if it did, I'd replace it free.

That's good to know. Thanks for the info. I was looking at Alligator Bob's stuff then I saw seatmaker on here. I like the idea of using someone others on here know and have used.

Alligator Bob's got some exotic stuff, wish I knew his resources. Kinda envy him as I believe he does this for a living. Guess I just don't charge enough, but that's not what it's all about :D

It sure looks like he does it for a living. On his web site he is very clear about not selling his materials to anyone. I guess he doesn't want other folks getting in on his action. I am sure he does seats full time... and charges a fortune. Some of his stuff is amazing work. Way too intricate for what I want but interesting all the same.

Seatmaker, once I get my mind made up I'll get with you to see what you can do.
