Custom Drop Seat

Well, I had been debating on whether to keep the spring seat that came with my Pit, but really didn't feel that the springs made a huge difference, plus without it having any real rear-end support, I found myself sliding off the back of the seat when accelerating. So after chatting with some people in here, I decided to go ahead and try out the drop solo. But of course I found myself emailing Danny Gray Custom Seats and chatting with them. Sherry at DG then referred me to Sterling and went from just "trying" a solo to ordering a custom one. I'll attach some pictures, only hitch I have had is that they put the wrong tab on the seat so it is being shipped back so the proper one can be attached. I attached one pic where I managed to lay the seat on there close to where it is supposed to go so I could get an idea of how it would look. The seat looks awesome as the flame stitching is nearly a perfect match to my paint job (even though for some reason the stitching comes out more red in the pictures?) and the full quill ostrich band just adds some more custom look to it and I think it looks awesome and can't wait for it to get back to me!

Really don't know on comfort as it wasn't properly seated when I laid it on the bike to take the picture so didn't want to really get on it. Will know more, hopefully next week. This one has the gel in it so surely it is more comfortable than the stock seat.

I have a total of $650 in that new custom seat. Stitching, full quill ostrich, sort of adds up, but I figured that if I was going to have a "custom" bike, I needed a custom seat! I think the stock seat without gel was going to be $250 before shipping or tax.

i think its a really great lookin seat, but couldnt they have made the very front of it not as thick so that it meets up with the tank as one smooth flowing line??????

Yes, it will when the proper tab is attached under the seat. That was just a pic I took while it was laying over the bracket where the right tab is supposed to go into, so it wasn't seated properly. Should be nice and flush once I get it back!

Nice bro, let me know how comfortable it is..I have been thinking about doing the drop seat on mine since I am only 5'8" and wanted to really sit down in the bike a little more.

I will let you know how if feels. Do know that you can definitely see the "drop" with this seat and while it says 2.5" I am thinking it will feel more drastic than that. There are probably others in here that can give you a more accurate description and possibly some similar to you in height. I am 6'2" and had to extend my controls so probably wouldn't be a good source on knowing if it will change your riding fit in regards to handlebars and forward controls, but will obviously get you closer to the ground!

I'm not crazy about the design on the leather, but it looks awesome on the bike. Looks much better than the spring seat to me.

Got my seat back and installed so here are some pictures. As for those wondering about the ride, well, I like it. It really dropped me down "in the saddle" so to speak and really feels more stable when accelerating as my ass doesn't get sucked off the back. It is a true rigid now and while the spring seat did absorb a LITTLE of the bumps, I will be fine with the new one as it isn't that much of a difference at all. I feel much more comfortable sitting down lower, and I think the bike looks much better as well. Here are some pics, I just wish the pictures gave the stitching on the seat more justice as they match the paint much better than the pictures indicate.

Tex,
Goes well with the burnin' hundreds paint scheme of your bike. I had the same thoughts with regard to the spring seat - just didn't hold me when I gave her a handful of throttle. I worried about riding a hardtail without any give in the saddle by going to the drop seat, but after about 500 miles on the drop saddle, I wouldn't go back to the spring saddle. The only thing I was considering is having some gel put in to absorb some of the small bumbs/vibrations and give me a bit more comfort, which of course would require a re-covering of the seat. It's good to have some options. Thanks for posting the pics.

I got a Danny Gray seat for my '99 Bulldog as soon as I bought it back in '99. Mine still looks great, and from the look of your seat, Danny is getting even better with age. That is a very sharp ride, and the seat really adds to it!
