crapy tire mileage

I'm about 15k on my rear, and still not at the wear markers. I will run it to the bitter end, as long as it doesn't dry rot. I don't do burnouts but I do a lot of holeshots.

I am just replacing my rear tire at 5500 miles. The main reason is the fact that I picked up a piece of metal dead center in the tread. I don't know if it went deep enough to cut any cords, but since I have a long trip planned (about 3000 miles total) I really don't want to risk it. It isn't leaking any air, but 80 mph is a tough time to find out you have a rear tire problem. I have noticed though that I am getting some cupping on the left side. Right side looks to be normal wear. I am having them double check the alignment while putting on the new tire. I did replace the stick on weights with dyna beads. With the wide profile of the 300 tire, I hope this wasn't a contributing factor. Front tire still looks really good.

I have 3,800 mls on the factory tire and I am totally into the wear marks. No burn outs but ride my Dog hard :2thumbs: ...... alignment and tire pressure always correct. But a lot of stop and go when I go along the ocean. Need replacement asap. I don't understand how you guys can go to 10 - 15,000 mls..........:job: :job: :job: :job:
Please tell me the secret .......

I got less than 7k on my first, but I thought it was due to under inflation (heat) as I caught it late at under 30psi a cpl times as my valve stem was leaking and didn't realize it until it was too late. I've got about 4k on this one and looks to be wearing better than the last so far and keeping it between 40-42psi.

I'm close to 10k on my 300 rear. I run it at 30psi. it looks like i still have some good life on it.

I run my 250 Avon at 36PSI. I dog the shit outta mine.........Burn out at least a half a dozen times EVERY time I ride. Not a stand still burnout with the front wheel up against something, just a straight off the line first and second gear burnout, and mine is wearing like iron. I still have half my tread left and have 6200 miles in that tire. All my buddies can't believe how good of shape my tire is in because of the way I'm always peeling out from every light. Hope the last half last as good as the first. If not, no big deal....I'm not going to change the way I ride because I'm afraid to spend a few hundred dollars on a new tire a few months earlier than I would otherwise.

When you do the back tire alignment take 2 long florescent lights and use a bungy cord to attach one to each side of your back tire. Stand the bike up straight and the front tire should be in the center of the lights. This is the only way I could get my back tire aligned so that it did not pull to one side or the other.
