crank case pressure

Would excessive crank case pressure be a possible cause of an oil leak from the rear rocker box ? I have a 2005 mastiff just got it single owner 4000 miles on it. I noticed a leak there at the rear rocker box about 3 or 4 drips not sure how long that took to leak out. Anybody have some info I would appreciate it. BTW I did search and read up on these leaks on this site very informative.

Top or bottom of the box. Presure should not be a prob unless something is clogged. What ype of air cleaner set up is on the bike and if its not stock what has been done to the breather hoses that conected to it.

Stock air cleaner I'll have to take a close look but pretty sure leak at bottom of the box. There is a long clear hose hanging down from the carburetor I thought that may be the breather hose it's clean with no oil in it so not sure.

With your Mastiff being an '05, I'll assume you still have the TP rocker boxes. It's not major malfunction to have a few drops of oil leak from the bottom seal. You just need to pull the Rocker Box and replace the gasket. May as well replace the upper gasket while you have it appart and inspect the valve guides for unusual wear. The TP have been known to have poor geometry with the alignment of the roller rockers to the valve stem causing early wear on the guides.

clear hose from the carb is your overflow for gas nothing to do with head breathing, and its good that its clean with no oil. You head breather hoses are black and come out of the heads :2thumbs:

Sweat or Seep = Has accumulated a black layer over the split of both covers. Travels along the split, does not drop down as in a drip.

Leak = Start bike, can see a drop of oil as it drops down, has color, shines, etc. Yeah, that is a leak and must be addressed or up in smoke the bike goes.

Looks like a sweat I'll just keep an eye on it. It did have a couple of drips on the fins but did not drip off not sure how long that took
