I was washing the bike this morning an noticed a small hairline crack on the lower right side of the frame. Has anyone experienced this before? I have an 05 Ridgeback.

Yes, many.
Do the “search” on subject.
eeehhhhh, not "many" but there have been a few (believe under 10). at least that have been reported here. could always be more not reported.

of course, i have been wrong before.

There was BD recall on frames, anyway with many I ment it's not unheard, or even that rare.

yes, there was a recall, definitely. was not down-playing the severity of the problem. in all instances, it could be life ending. these bikes, unfortunately, are not built as strongly as cars and, therefore, should be inspected by the rider as frequently as possible. i, for one, fall very short on my responsibilities as an owner when it comes to safety. when i want to ride, i want to ride.

ya'll be safe out there :2thumbs:

I may be wrong but the recall you are talking about was for the backbone. Bdm was defunct when these fractures like you have started showing up. Some have welded, repainted and good as new, probably.

Oh yes, you are right, that was backbone indeed. I don't have a fracture though. Nor am I a fracture. Lol. Where should I place that comma, hmmm. LoL, cheers

The recall involved the 03 RT frames and the recall in listed in the Recall section under Technical on this site. I broke my 05 RT frame coming back from Sturgis some years ago and BDM replaced it. With BDM gone your just going to have to strip it down and have it welded up by a reputable frame shop.

I had the same problem at the same location. Was told to reduce pressure in rear tire to give a softer ride. I check the crack daily and it appears only to be a surface crack.
