Converting spoke wheels to tubeless

Hello,

I recently had a tube blow on my ride. No nails or damage to the tire. Tube just decided to go. The tubes alone are 50 bukks a pop + mounting and balancing. The next time it goes, I am wanting to convert to seal my wheel and go tubeless.

I think it is somewhat sealed already. Even with the blown tube, the air only came from behind the valve stem area, not the spoke mounting points.

Has anyone attempted this ? Any advice ? What sealant did you use ? I have 300 rear.

Thanks in advance

As far as I know spoke rims
need a tube . Take the tire off and
see why it blew , There must be something
that puncutered the tube wall - check the rim strip
maybe a spoke came threw ?
What are you riding with spokes anyway ?
Manfacturer / Year / Model ?

2X. Good advice. I never heard of a tubeless wire spoke wheel.

They are tubed spoke wheels now.. But ppl have sealed spoke wheels to make them tubeless. Just looking for info from those who have done the process. Hints, tips, what to look out for...

It's on a one-off Redneck Engineering

The tube was probably either pinched or wrinkled on the install. To go tubeless you would have to seal every spoke. Also make sure they are using the right size tube. They only stretch so far.

there was a company a few years ago that advertised converting a tube requiring spoked wheel to tubless by sealing the wheel with a process they developed -- sent the wheel to them and got it back as tubeless. Was done under pressure and a not normal sealant.

There are a coiple of articles online about guys doing it themselves.

You would be very suprised at just how much a tube will stretch, In my more adventurous days, I took a wheel barrow tube, put it in the middle of the yard, attached the compressor hose to it and turned on the compressor:loony::lol::lol: Well it grew to about the size of a truck tire and my brilliant brother threw a pliers at it, when the pliers hit it, she blew and rattle the windows in the house so bad that it took about 2 seconds for my mom to be standing there screaming at us. The pliers was a different story, when the tube blew it launched it and it went right through the garage door to the tractor shed, dad was not real happy with us.
I often wondered how big a truck tube would get but I only have 150 ft of air hose and I'm not sure thats far enough away from the house to do this:roll: Mom and Dad aren't around anymore and I am in my 50's so I really shouldn't catch hell from anybody:)
