I have a 2008 big dog K9 EFI 29000 mile. The front jugs gets extremely hot 250 to 300 degrees just to make sure that the head gasket was not blown I did a compression test both heads tested at 175 PSI could a blown head gasket be found just doing a compression test or does a leak down test need to be done bike rides good any other suggestions thanks in advance for all the help

Leaky Intake gaskets ? can cause overheating also from what I have read. There are some youtube videos on the subject.

What is the circumstance? How are you measuring temp? What is the rear cylinder temp in the same condition?

It's hard to get a good picture this is my concern this is the front cylinder looks like the head gasket is black from possibly leaking

So are actually having a problem or just looking for one lol?

Are you just idling in the driveway?

My only thought is you are running a little lean. Is you engine light on?

You can hook up protune and see what your file maps look like and if there are any faults.

Know when I see burnt oil on a fin 1st thing I think of is blown head gasket both jugs measured 185PSI I did test with a light temperature and it's below 200 I mistakenly thought it was over 300 that was testing in the driveway I did see a dab of oil on the tin still thinking I have a very slow leak at the head gasket for some reason

In the upper left side picture where you see oil is the head gasket that's where it's bubbling the size of a pinhead I guess a head gasket is in order what's the typical cost for having that done

Sounds like you got great compression, runs good.

I personally would not loose any sleep or go ripping the heads off for a few dribbles of oil.

Keep an eye on it and enjoy it.

Yeah I think that's what I'm going to do when I say it bubbled pinhead it was barely able to see and I got 185 on both cylinders That might be a Winter project Do you know what the going rate is to replace the head gasket

Your last post came in while I was writing mine.

I’m not clear on what I’m looking at.

I would clean it up real good and monitor closely for a few rides.

The bubble leak is directly behind the Front exhaust gasket You're looking at the right front corner of the bike in this picture

I'm glad it's the front cylinder and not the rear I think it's going to be easier to get to I know a lot will have to come off the bike I do have a shop manual

How many times did you tear the top end down, Sven. Oh about 3 times.
You know it was an old bike and the paper is so brittle it can't hold the oil back those many years.
Why didn't you do it right the first time. Oh, I was saving time and money.
YOu fucking asshole, Sven, you blew 60 bucks on the base and head, top cover and tube orings, why didn't you buy a top end set for 90 bucks, you coulda pulled the intake manifold off once. Oh, I thought I'd just fix what was broke.
Well, ya dipshit, the other side took a leak no less than 2 leaks later and you blew 60 bucks right off the bat. Lucky the top end set was for both cylinders. Did you learn your lesson on some old/heat cycled decade plus kind of get ready, get set...

Orange circle is where the head gasket is bubbling Pinhead size it's right behind the front exhaust

Weep/Seep = Is when it peppers around the split of head to cylinder, cylinder to case, etc. - Brake clean area and monitor is the fix.
Leak = Is when it travels down and onto another part of the engine and ends at the floor of the garage - Change out gaskets/orings.

Compression loss exits 3 ways: In valve... ex valve... head gasket.
Say a paper gasket is used. They install a steel ring so the flame front is heating the ring. A hot spot can heat the ring [area] to an orange glow, eat thru the ring, then burns the paper to the point of reaching the outside of the paper gasket and out the split of the head to cylinder = Compression loss. Valves can burn, cause pie cut cracks off the face off the valve, can no longer seal the air, thus leaks out compression. Bent valve does not sit flat on the seat surface and loss of compression happens.

If the other cylinder does not leak at the gasket, and both have the same compression, it's not the steel ring being burned, its rather an old original gasket that no longer can hold back oil.

Planned obsoletes like bulbs are looking at the same longevity as paper gaskets. The other cylinder is about to give up gasket wise, so it would be wise to freshen both cylinders. Ass me how I know?
