I recently bought my dog a couple months back. No one at the dealer said anything about having to press the compression bulbs before starting. How do I know if I should be doing this or not? I have an 04 chopper 107ci

are you talking about pushing down on the compression release bulbs on top of the valve covers before starting your bike? No, you don't want to do that.

There electronic. When you press the start button the compression releases engage, the headlight goes off and the motor starts (hopefully :D ).
You can press them down and I do every once in a while to ensure they are working. I used to press them in all the time prior to starting but stopped.

I greatly appreciate the response guys. The reason I ask is, I have a friend that has an iron horse and another friend who has a wild west. They were told to always push the bulbs down before starting, so I was not sure about mine. Thanks again guys for all the information that you post on this site, very helpful

Its a matter of electronic or mechanical compression releases.

If you have these cords coming out of the rocker boxes going up to the back bone... then you have electronic and they work as Ray said.
