Ok, probably a stupid question but here's my disclaimer:

Expect alot of how-to type questions (here and via PM) from me over the next few months. I'll be in the dirt with nothing but this forum and pics of my bikes to get me thru it so it will probably be the equivalent of a winter non-riding season that lasts 6-8 months!!!

What's involved in going from the stock single coil to a dual coil setup? I was thinking of going with a different type coil cover (more pointy :D ) that requires two separate coil. I think Al or Sul did this a while back.

Thanks.

Not to speak for gasman, But he just got all those goodies too.
He will know too.
Maybe a how-to is in order.
I would think gas may do one.
He seems to have a good working order of his bike.

LDO, you can run dual coils with a dual fire or single fire ignition ,all thats needed is a either one or 2 jumpers. You will need 2 3ohm single fire coils, motor mount, coil cover. You may want to upgrade your ignition at the same time, it will save some work if you do.

That's what I did... new ignition, coils, key, motor mount, coil mount, pick up cup.

Al.. I thought you did a how to on this a while ago?

I will be doing a how to on this and many many other things this winter... I'll do my best to keep you entertained LDO...

But i will tell ya... not all are the same. I found out where to get the coils for the best place. I also found out that even though the yankee motor mount is nicer and 1 piece... it still needs some custom milling to accept the key on the coil mount.... but more to come with this later.... Vickie is well aware of everything and can work through it with you. We both have learned alot on my round thru...

I want to do same to lose the BDM cover. Trotta has one for BDM complete kit with key - but he wants $750. That's crazy.

Thanks Al,
That's what I want right there. Been looking at the ones from Vulcan Engineering. They've got the gothic style that comes with coils & everything.

LDO... that's not the one you want... go with the Vulcan exclusive straight out 3 ohm coils, that way you can re-use your double 90 degree spark plug cables. Also, you have to make sure it has the spacer for as they put it "big F'in heads". And their key that way its a D shape and fits the coil cover.
Here's an example but this one is gloss black and not chrome but you get the idea.

I went with the yankee top motor mount cause its a 1 piece instead of the vulcan 2 piece. But it needs some mill work done to accomadate the key... so we think... waiting for a new key to be sure. But the yankee also does have the HD coil mount hole in the top of the motor mount, which I don't want.

Also, Vickie can get this stuff for you as well.

i did the swap before riding season this year. looks great, and i think it was around $400 before paint. I have the vulcan setup, that did need a little modifying, but worked fine.

pics are in my gallery.
