Way back in 1968, when I had a job delivering parts for our local NAPA store, they had a machine they could hook coils to and check them out. The reason I'm bringing this up, is because you reminded me about the time one of our regular customers came in and wanted a set of points and a condenser for an old tractor. The counter guy said the part number without even looking them up. ANYHOW.. I took the condenser back to the shop and charged it up on the coil tester. If you have ever worked in a parts house , you'll notice that 99% of the people will take the parts out of the package and " inspect " them. Long story short, when the guy pulled the condenser and touched the can and lead at the same time, he got nailed with full spark plug voltage. I would have got away with it if I hadn't laughed. He chased my young butt around the outside of that store 3 times till we were both out of breath and laughing about it ! Point being, maybe one of those parts houses near you might have a test machine.
