Clutch?

The clutch slips at higher rpm - I say the clutch, I'm not really sure?? On the upper end of the rpm band, the bike seems to quit pulling, but the rpm still increases. I had the shop adjust the clutch which took several attemps - it wanted to walk when the lever seemed right, and we finially got that out of it but it still slips at the higher rpm. It doesn't do it when you take off, just at highway speeds. The bike has 17000 miles on it and the clutch basket was replaced at approx 1500 miles by the factory (It broke MORE THAN 10 clutch baskets when it was newer). Is the clutch/clutch basket worn out?

I'd be interested in the replies as my '05 Chopper had just developed the same symptom. I can take off from a standstill just fine, but then once I'm on the freeway and give it a bunch of throttle, the clutch slips.

Make sure you have about an 1/8" of slop or "free-play" in your clutch lever. If it's too tight, it will cause the clutch to slip, and damage.

I had that problem with my 07 k 9 it was the nut on the input shaft of the transmission had backed off.

Last 2 posts are both great suggestions.

Bottom line if you just take it all apart you can check yourself. The service manual gives you very clear measurements on what the clutch pack should be as well as the fiber plates thickness.

sounds like a worn out clutch pack if you had that many baskets go out on you.
