Yesterday while my son (BYRDDOGG)and I were riding his clutch started pulling so we ajusted it with the cable. Then he rode down today and we were going to reajust his clutch. Before he could get to my house the clutch got a lot of slack in it and then poped and went to nothing on the lever. It was also making a wineing rattling noise in the clutch side and when we tried to ajust the clutch there was nothing. You could run the ajustment all the way out on the cable and get some slack out of it but the clutch would not pull in then. Any one see any thing like this.:spank: :spank: any comments appreciated.

Hmm, I'd pull the primary cover and inspect your clutch assembly. I think a few people have had their clutch baskets take a dump. Could also be a loose tranny nut.

Forgot to add- if it was the clutch basket BDM should step up to the plate to take care of it. I think it was a known problem with some bikes/years.

Yep....what IrishGuy said...Start with opening the primary cover and a quick inspection will reveal all...Good luck, hopefully its nothing major, loose tranny nut, messed up throw bearing.

early 05 when BD first came out with the dssc rsd primary it had a week clutch basket that were actually shearing completely. bike would still move but wanted to pull while stopped in gear.

was amazed when i rode mine up to the dealer and he pulled it out in 2 pieces. he had the upgraded part on the shelf as BD knew of the problem.

Ive got a 05 and my carrier bearing went south on me but this is my sons 07 K-9, it has the new style carrier in it, but it could be the throwout bearing or possibly a loose tranny nut. Thanks, all.

My bet the clutch basket nut backed out then you took the slack out of it. This happened to me.

Happened to me also. If it is the clutch nut don't forget to go back and readjust the clutch cable after tightening the clutch nut.

I would think clutch nut. Mine did the same thing. I kept ajusting the clutch cable until the the ball and ramp overode the assembly and the end popped out. Thus leaving you with no lever.

TByrd, if i remember right, the recommended procedure was tighten the whole thing to 150ftlb to pull everything back together and then back off and re-tighten with red loctite to 110 to 120ftlb. good luck.
