clutch problem!!

My brothers bike (05 chopper) is acting up with the clutch, need some help!! When pulling the clutch lever in it sometimes works just fine, sometimes starts engaging just off the grip and sometimes goes out half way and stops while almost engaged (bike is trying to go), if you pump it a couple times it starts working fine. The whole clutch assembly has been replaced. Any ideas??

only suggestion I can make if he has had the clutch replaced is redo all the adjustments, maybe pull the pushrod out and check it if this has not been replaced as some of the 05's had faulty pushrods (I've replaced mine) and take apart and regrease the ball and ramp assembly - if problem still persists and the new clutch is good then maybe a transmission issue.

if thats whats happening tell him to hold the clutch in when starting the bike - I think it helps - should do this anyway but I never used to
