Clutch Pack

Can anyone tell me the difference between the 12 plate clutch pack and the 9 plate clutch pack? Just replaced the stock pack (12) with another stock pack (12 plate) but I'm still getting too much slippage in the power range of the rpm. Am able to adjust the clutch and it pulls good for a short time (50-75 miles) then it needs adjusting again? Baker says the 9 pack clutch should hold the hp?

No expert here and don't have the exact specs but generally speaking besides other components within the clutch assembly, the friction plates (clutch plates) that you refer to are responsible to engage/disengage the “power” from the engine to the tranny. The actual engagement/disengagement is controlled by the clutch lever. Regarding the number of plates, the more powerful the engine the more plates you need in order to avoid slippage. Based on what you describe here it doesn’t seem to be a clutch plate problem.
1.Either you tranny nut is opening up
2.Your clutch cable is giving way
3.Your clutch cable adjuster is not tight
4.Something wrong with the pushrod/throw bearing/pressure plate line up.

Mine was about $450. There's a lot of How to's on this website ... there's enough to be confident in doing it yourself and of course a lot of help. Don't put too much primary fluid ... could be the cause of the slippage. The guys at Bandit said that you can really run the Bandit clutch dry. The primary fluid is just for the chain not the clutch. Can't go wrong with the Bandit. I think when they went from 107cu to a 117cu in 2005 the clutch was a little too weak. Good luck in your choice. Again can't go wrong with the Bandit. :D :2thumbs: :flag:
