clutch not engaging

Hey guys,

I just pulled my chopper out of storage and it started right up. When I tried to pull the clutch and engage the gear it popped it to gear and stalled out! The clutch is not engaging, It will go into neutral but won't roll free when I pull the clutch lever. Any easy troubleshooting advice?

you say you just took it out of storage, could be that the clutch discs are stuck together. might have to open up the clutch pack and separate them and clean them up a little.

You are going to look for a place to have no one in the way. You are going to either get a push and kick it in gear or run and stab it in gear as the engine is running. I grabbed for the choke on a B model S&S and the bike almost pulls me off, the engine begins to kick back in.

You've either done this push and back brake busting the clutch plates loose with the clutch lever in all the time or you go for N and coast to a stop or blow gears out. It's pull it down or back brake it loose. One or the other.

Thanks for the help! The clutch plates were sticking. I drained the oil, pulled off the cover and removed all the clutch plates. They were all gummed up. Cleaned them and reinstalled. Working like a champ.
I must agree that running it in gear would have likely done the trick just a little haywire but it would have likely worked.
