Clutch Cables

Alicat

Hanging out
Was getting ready for a long ride yesterday with a group of bikes here in Orlando, when we take off and my clutch cable broke, right at the clutch handle.
Riding back, wasn't that big of a problem once I got the bike moving again, you can kind of syncronise the shifting.
No one local to Orlando had that cable in stock though, but when I called Big Dog in Tampa they had one.
Getting the dog into the trailer was the biggest issue with no clutch. I even tried disconnecting the the rest of the cable, making a small handle for the cable and tried pulling the clutch in that way NO LUCK! that clutch is a bear to pull. Finally I was able to enlist 2 other guys passing by to help push the bike up the ramp and into the trailer.
HAPPY ENDING... I got to Tampa Big Dog, and they took the bike right in and replaced the cable under warranty all while we sat around and ate pizza! They were great! They even washed off my dirty, gritty bike for me.
Well boys, I'm off ridin' again...

Glad you're running again! Cable lube buddy...it's all about the lube.

Anyone installed the BDM part that makes the clutch easier to pull in? Saw it on the BDm site last night but have not heard anyone mention it here.

Clutch Cable

Alicat,

Mine popped at 1500 miles and was also covered under warranty. To prevent your cable from popping again, apply some dri-slide or cable lubricant after washing your machine. For some reason moisture/water gets into the clutch handle and down the cable, thus causing the cable to break down. The dri-slide is an anti-corrosion lube consisting of graphite oil.

Take care,

Have a separate thread on it Rick ... I'll let you guys know when BDM has more in stock.
