Circuit Breaker on 2001 Mastiff?

Energy One

Guys,

The other day I cranked my 2001 Mastiff up just fine. Let her warm up a bit and dropped it into first. It immediately dropped dead. No lights, no nothing.

The battery is good to go for sure. Fuse maybe? I suspect I have a short somewhere, perhaps the battery terminal grounded out (it's dangerously close to ground).

Any ideas?

Anyone know if there is a circuit breaker on a 2001 Mastiff? If so...

WHERE THE @*&#@*#& is it?

Thanks!

Not under your seat? Do you have a service manual? Sorry, not sure if BD put one out (service manual) for the pre-03 years or not...

Also, merged/deleted your other thread.

Yes as LDO stated I had an 03 like he has but this poster is asking about an 01 and to my knowledge (not much on the early models) but they pretty much followed the HD models.
Couldn't tell you if they have a curcuit breaker or not but wouldn't be to much to check it out and determine if they did. It would either be under the seat or between the tanks but I would think it would be closer to the battery.

I would ask how sure are you your battery is good? Is it brand new, has it been load tested, is it old or as you stated maybe it grounded out.

Good luck,
Ray

And welcome to the forum.

Since it would be like harley back then, Would it have a big fuse ?
Like a 32 or 40 amp?

Not sure myself, maybe he is looking for the wrong thing.

The battery is relatively new. I'm pretty sure the battery is good because I rode the bike into work. Cranked just fine on the way here. Also, I had cranked the bike just fine, just as I was getting ready to leave work, and it didn't drop dead until I put it into first gear. I think the jolt from dropping it into gear caused the short. I think I've fixed the short but I still don't have ANY power. No headlight, no console lights, no nothing. Voltmeter shows 12+ volts on the battery. I have a Thunder Heart module between the tanks but it's sealed. Is there an inline fuse or something?

Check your ground and your batttery conections. Happened to me on an 02, and it was a stripped bolt on the negative cable that would not tighten, but appeared tight.

I have 2001 manual and A 2001 Mastiff. There is no circuit breaker on these models. I have had problems with the Ignition switch and replaced that. Pull the coil cover and check for voltage at the switch, be careful the switch can be removed by sliding the lock lever close to the base. If you decide to seperate the 2 pieces be sure to make a line up or witness mark on both pieces, if not it is a rubiks cube. If you need a PDF copy of the wiring digram let me know. If I knew how to post it here I would.

Sh8kr,
you should be able to attach the pdf by posting a reply and clicking on the paper clip in the top bar of the grey window. it will open up a 2nd window where you select the file type and then click browse to search for it on your computer.

click upload and that should be it.

Hope this helps in getting that dog back on the road!:2thumbs:

This is in the manual and I am not sure how to copy 1 page. All K9 would need is the wiring diagram. I'll send it to ya PM if that helps.

Good news bad news....

Good news is I got my bike running! :)
Bad news is I have no idea what was wrong. :(

I really didn't change anything. I pulled the ignition switch mount to test for power at the switch and amazingly I had power at the switch. I put the key in and turned it to on and all my lights came on.

I'm completely baffled.

The only thing I can think of is that the ECU didn't reset. Does anyone know how the ECU works (Thunder Heart)? Can you have a sticky relay or something? Will the ECU cut all power?

I'm a little worried now that I'll be out on the road (in the middle of nowhere) and this will happen again.

I'd still like to see the wiring diagram to check all this stuff.

Thanks for your help guys! If I ever find the cause, I'll pass it on.

Could of just been a weak connection and with you moving the wires it may have re-connected the wire. My bike just got re-built and the factory told me that one of my coil wires was hanging on by just three strands of the wire.

With an old bike like yours you may want to go over the wiring and re seal it up as many of us have.

Glad you are back up and running,
Ray
