Chrome Bolts?

There are numerous bolts and some washers that I need Chromed. Is this something that can be done? If so, If they chrome an allan head bolt wouldent that change the size of the allen wrench used on it? What is the best way to install and remove these bolts without scaring the chrome?

you are better off replacing the bolts with chrome ones (rather than sending bolts off to chromer). Places like bolt depot, garner westcott and chrome bolts.com can send you what you need.

Otherwise, (like Oscar) use SS and they'll hold up alot better to your tools when you're working on your ride.

Try Bolt Depot - Nuts and Bolts, Screws and Fasteners online or Chrome Bolts, Stainless Steel Bolts, Metric Bolts, Socket Head Cap Screws, Grade 8 Bolts, F911 Bolts

Careful replacing chrome with stainless, stainless is weaker. Generally chrome cap heads are grade 8. Hex heads can be grade 5 or 8. Pretty much every season I go over the bike and replace the bolts that get beat up over the course of the season. Caliper bolts, kickstand bolts, etc. Bolt depot sells a nice little bolt gauge for like $2. It makes it quick and easy to find the size and thread pitch of a bolt so you know what to order.

Thanks alot guys :2thumbs: There is alot of different sizes and thread patterns. I would be pissed if I ordered the wrong one.

I didn't even realize you did that LDO, but not a problem. Kuryakin, Custom Chrome, Dennis Kirk, etc. also sell chrome cap head covers and plugs to hide bolt heads. I know they are expensive but if you're the super picky type it might be something you'd like. Keep in mind also that if you do use stainless, don't torque them to the full value listed in the manual or on a grade 8 chart. I'm sure there is a stainless chart somewhere if you do a search.

Very true!

I have a chart floating around here somewhere.

The stainless bolts I've been using are from the company that supplies a company that builds the funky ass bike in this area.

Forget the name though:confused: .

When I find it I'll post it up so you can check them out.

Yeah the hardend chrome bolts carry a 8.8 grade. Where most SS is only grade 5

Hey guys, my local Menards home improvment store has a real good selection of Chrome and Stainless Steel bolts. So if anyone has a Menards in their area you might try them :D

Hey Korn, I have a bolt gauge I can send you or you can go to Fastenal and they normally will give you one, either way just let me know.

so i want to get some chrome covers for the allen bolts that hold the Rocker boxes on , what size are those bolts ??

Found the name of the bike company that uses the same stainless bolts that I get from the there vendor. Check them out, Some funky machines.
