Cheap Backrest

I was getting frustrated trying to find a reasonably priced BDM backrest for my sissybar. I picked this guy up off ebay for $25.00

At first it looked like it wasn't wide enough, the only place where it would fit was were the bar bends up top. So I separated the the backing plate from the pad then assembled it again on the bar. I then took a thick cloth diaper and a claw-hammer and finessed the plate to match the contour of the bend in the bar.

Turned out pretty good I think and a lot easier on the wallet than a new BDM pad

Didn't really have a choice, I had to put it up that high other wise it wouldn't have worked. However it does work a lot better that way.

Hey Gunny,

That looks real nice and the price is definitely well worth the minor adjustment or finesse that was made to make it fit. :2thumbs:

I was thinking about this myself but haven't found the right bar to experiment with. Do you have a close up of the mounting point to the fender strut?

Thanks for sharing

But how does the passenger like it? Looks like it would be too far up her back to be comfortable.

The sissybar and struts are BDM, is that what you want a picture of?

This being the 12" bar it's not too bad, I would agree with you that it would be to high up with the 18" bar. I sat on it after after 2004BC was so gracious to provide me with a P-Pad, and it feels fine, my wife did not have any complaints either.

Anyone else running into this problem just cut up a board, add some t-nuts and shoot it over to me to cover it for ya reasonably.
