Chaps burned on my pipes

Jay,
I had the same issue a few years ago and heard an assload of guaranteed cures for it......and only one worked. I'm not saying that this is the only fix but I can tell you that WD-40, mineral spirits, acetone, wax...blah, blah, blah did nothing to remove the charred crap. The only thing that worked like a charm was EZ-Off oven cleaner on hot pipes! Nothing stood a chance against this stuff. Keep it off the painted surfaces whatever you do!!!!!!!!!

With respect to all, because all posts reflect tried and true methods, I'm a little surprised nobody mentioned Nevr-Dull. It's usually in stock at most respectable hardware stores. Used extensively by the military. Takes some elbow grease, but always worked for me and never left a scratch. Works on just about everything, so I always keep a can around in the garage. Good luck.

With respect to all, because all posts reflect tried and true methods, I'm a little surprised nobody mentioned Nevr-Dull. It's usually in stock at most respectable hardware stores. Used extensively by the military. Takes some elbow grease, but always worked for me and never left a scratch. Works on just about everything, so I always keep a can around in the garage. Good luck.

If that is the white cotton pad stuff in a can, it is really good stuff! Just not sure how it does on burnt on crap on pipes

Nevr-Dull is great and I use it all the time. However, it won't take off burnt on plastic. Been there, tried that.

As a matter of fact the pressure required for it to even work a little bit will scratch the chrome... don't ask.

Looks like I'm going to try the EZ OFF method with the spay on the towel. Lets hope it will be an EZ resolution! lol

And a plastic spoon or knife to scrap it off. It worked for me. No scratches and a little elbow grease

If that does not give the desired results, get the pipes hot, spray directly on pipes, allow to sit for a short time, take a clean, wet towel and wipe off. The towel needs to be wet so you do not just add more burnt crap to the pipe. The pipes are so frickin hot that the towel will be steaming the water out of it. Keep the towel wet!!!

I started the bike got the pipes hot spayed some ez off on the pipes and let it sit for a few minutes then sprayed the rag and rubbed the pipes. and wouldn't you know it. they look like new! I want to thank everyone that offered up a solution. you guys rock!

Hell yeah 3$ worth of EZ OFF to clean the pipes and not having to buy new ones at 600$ ....Priceless!
