I found my crank vent its already been ran to the ground so I dont know what the residue is unless my car is slightly overloading

I have a 02 pit (107 incher)When im driving down the road at any given speed the carb seems to cough briefly just 1 quick time each time. Also there is an oil residue on my oil can every time i ride. The coughing does not effect the bike much at all.Is this common. As far as i know the carb is stock .Doesnt smell to rich to me.I had it adjusted last summer and the guy said it had grat response(i think so too)What do yall think?
If your carb is coughing at steady speed, you might have an intake leak. Inspect your spark plugs to see if they are burning evenly. If not, the lightest or cleanest plug will be on the cylinder that may have a leak.

The 107 was dual vented. One line went from the bottom end breather (behind and below the oil pump) to the back of the air cleaner and both heads vented through banjo fittings into the back of the air cleaner as well.

Inside the rocker box covers there are a couple of umbrella valves (directly above where the air cleaner mounting bolts go into the heads. Sometimes those umbrella valves get stiff over time and don't seal well or sometimes one will roll and not seal at all. This will cause oil mist to transfer into the air cleaner.

Prolonged high rpm operation will result in oil carry-over into your air cleaner as well.

On a dual vented engine, you can plug off the top end breathers all together, or you can route them away from your air cleaner.

Not to sound like a serious dumbass! (Ease up with the rib shots people) Why is it o.k. to do this? DV:confused:

And if it was to bedone what would the problem be in the long run if any?

Ive been told its not good to block them off totally.Im new to all this so i dont know.
Don't block off the lower breather!

I blocked off the top end breathers on my 107 and haven't had any problems. The dual vent was a precautionary measure when the 4" engines first came available. The concern was that the increased piston diameter would create more crankcase pressure than the single case vent could handle.

Well after having a hard leaking 03 107 cu in I have no problem keeping the lines run into the maniford and carb on my 117. Clean and no chance of leaks.

Oh, and did I mention is still just keeps it clean!! :2thumbs:

DAMN!

never listen to everything you read.

you have an 02?

crank breather with head bolt breathers?

probably real confused with all that wrong info Gasman gave you huh?

go to wimmer.com they sell breathers you can mount to the breather bolts from the head. and they also sell puke cans that you could run your crank breather hose to so its not venting to the carb.

:loony:
nope... don't listen to to what I read... I read what I read.

And yes sorry about the confusion... MY BAD OH SAD!!! :job:

2 different opinons. What to do? What to do?
beano, most of the info posted here deals with the newer SSW motors (Super Side Winder). Your 02 doesn't apply except for what sul mentioned about head breathers that are available from Wimmer.
Our new SSW motors don't have these breathers but your motor does.

Just some differences in the model years that we sometimes forget to mention.

Good luck,
Ray

Exactly... I forget too often about those differences.... need to be reminded every once and a while. Good thing Sul always gets some twisted pleasure out of reminding me of my mistake.

just had trouble with the jerkoff sign. hope you dont say that to every man you meet.
I have yet to meet you... but no. And maybe this year... I would like to ride down to a VA/Tenn ride. Now that the bike is done, my #1 goal is to put on as many miles as I can. I'm sure work and home will interfere but we'll see.
