Senate Bill 435 (Motorcycle Smog Testing Bill) Scheduled for Hearing on May 28th in Appropriations Committee!!

This bill, which would require all model year 2000 and newer motorcycles over 280 cc's to be smog tested every 2 years, has been scheduled for a hearing in the Senate Finance committee on May 28th.

You can find the AMA’s “click to send” message in opposition to this bill at American Motorcyclist Association - Information Alert Tell the California State Senate to Oppose SB 435. I called my Senator (Alquist) and she doesn't sit on the Appropriations Committee so they said she didn't have any feelings yet one way or another on it supposedly. I guess they wait to see how far it goes and who's backing it and what's in it for them before they show any interest?

Last month it passed a committee vote to continue 13 to 0 versus the previous 7 to 3 vote previously so it's building steam and gaining support I guess. The 13 senators on the committee to focus on appear to be Kehoe, Cox, Corbett, Denham, DeSaulnier, Hancock, Leno, Oropeza, Runner, Walters, Wolk, Wyland, and Yee.

Please write these people specifically and remind them for the 2 million dollars this is going to make it's going to cost almost that much upfront to get going and the annual profits after the ongoing expenses are likely to be less then half a million according to THEIR committee findings in February. The additional expense to the Consumer Assistance Program alone is estimted to be $1,000,000 annually starting in 2012! That's the committees own numbers. This isn't going to save the state and make up for the failed bs initiatives, it will be lucky to break even and will only discourage Californians from riding motorcycles to commute (and voting for these people) thereby adding MORE smog and traffic problems, not less. :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:  :rant2:
