Looking at several used Big Dog motorcycles from out of state and from what I understand and been told is that I can't bring a used bike into CA and register it unless is has at least 7500mi on it. What purpose could this law possibly serve? How F'ing retarded. There's a couple bikes that I would try to buy right now but there's no point cause I can't bring them here.

Yep,

And that is why I would never live there. I lived there as a kid and teenager. I went to UC Davis and could not wait to leave the state. There are so many reasons not to live there and California being retarded sums it up.

Before Buying a Vehicle From Out of State - Be Sure You Can Register It in California FFVR 29

The Bottom Line
If you are a California resident and acquire a new car, truck or motorcycle from another state, it must be certified to meet California smog laws in order to be registered here. This includes certain diesel powered vehicles. DMV cannot accept an application to register a vehicle in California that does not qualify for registration (Health and Safety Codes [H&SC] §§43150 – 43156.)

What Is Considered a new Vehicle?
California considers any vehicle with less than 7,500 miles on the odometer at the time of purchase or trade by a California resident or business to be a new vehicle. This holds true whether or not the vehicle has been registered in another state.

Aren't all Vehicles California Certified?
Not all new vehicles are manufactured to be sold in California residents or businesses. Many manufacturers make vehicles to be sold in the other 49 states. These vehicles (49-State) are made with smog equipment that meets federal emission standards, but not California standards. California certified (50-State) vehicles are made to be sold to California residents.
I bought my Triumph Daytona out of state, threw the aftermarket carbon fiber exhaust on it the day I got it, that has a label that clearly says "FOR OFF ROAD USE ONLY." Took the bike to DMV for CA registration. They DMV drone look at the bike for about 15 seconds, turned around and went inside. Registered.

I would think MOST manufacturers make vehicles 50 state legal these days, note I was at Arlen Ness talking to him about the stock pipes he has on his lowliner and such and he says they've got to me CA Emissions to sell the motorcycles on the showroom floor, this includes stupid reflectors and all the other shit we take off our bikes. I would check with BD, but I'm pretty sure the stock S&S in 50 state legal....

I never thought I'd live in California either, but unfortunately the job that I have that allows me to be able to buy these toys is located here.

I'm going to check into BD and 50 state emissions. I think CA emissions has a charcoal canister on the front of the frame and 49 state bikes don't.

You are correct Sir. California is a great place to live if you want to leach off public services and pay high taxes for earning a decent wage. As far as the charcoal canister, it took me about 4 minutes to remove it. The thing that really sucked is that the backing plate to my air filter was closed up and not allowing the motor to breathe. I dumped the stock air filter and swapped it for high flow air induction system. I would have done it regardless but it would have been nice to have a proper filter from the start. A motorcycle cop friend of mine told me that yesterday that our Govornator just signed a law which will require smog checks on all motorcycles. This will mean that everyone will have to put their stock pipes back on the bikes as well as all the CA emissions crap we all rip off. If I didn't have my home, business and family in CA, I'd be outta hear.

Smog checks on all motorcycles? WTF? How much polution could motorcycles produce compared to cars and commercial trucks? And I wonder what the "fee" is going to be for this. This state is going after money any way the can.

putting a high mileage speedo on, would that actually work as far as getting it registered. I thought they would also want to look at the miles listed on the title?

I was told the smog law was for 2008 and up I didn"t think they could make a law retro active becuase there can't be any baselines for the bikes that were never smogged.

Come on out to Texas, plenty of CA transplants here. No state income tax and no BS laws like that, that I know of.
