Bypass the ehc ignition function

I have been experiencing ignition failure and through the help of a gear head friend eventually traced it to the ehc ignition function.
He used Moespeeds approach to locating the 12v input side of the coil (thanks Moe for the good guidance).
From there following Moe again he covered the ring terminal coming from the ehc with heat shrink and ran a new terminal up to the negative side of the battery.
He tried to start the bike but found it wouldn't run with just 12v to the coil input.
We found (with the thunderheart iginition module) you have to run 12v to the input of the thunderheart (this is the red wire that's part of the 4 wire plug on the thunderheart).
Once he did that we did a temporary direct wired to the battery to see if the bike would start. It did and was in the same sequence of turning the key on hitting run and pushing start.
An interesting observation was you could actually see the ignition led on the ehc intermittently failing ....blinking on an off while the thunderheart indicator light stayed constant due to the direct power source.
We declared success at that point.
We then went to Radio Shack and bought a small switch and mounted it under the seat attaching it by an oil tank mount bolt.
From there on one side we attached the two 12v feed wires (one to the coil one to the thunderheart module).
On the other side we ran a wire with an inline 8 amp fuse to the negative side of the battery.
Now to start the bike you turn on the new switch, turn on the key push run and start.
So far all of the other ehc function seem to be working other than the handle bar kill switch. Not sure how long these other function will work?
I suspect in a worst case if the ehc run function dies you would have to ground the thunderheart and put a direct push plunger on the starter as the start button would no longer work.
I now need to decide if I want to try and replace the ehc or switch to wire plus of which I know nothing about.
