After cleaning my bike after a ride the other day I noticed that the starter B+ cable (short wire) insulation (that comes from the solenoid) has degraded and opened up (perferated) to allow water into the wire conductors and through the solenoid cover seal. I plan on removing the starter end connection and recovering with heatshrink, overlapping the lower solenoid grommet.

The mechanic unbolted the wire from the solenoid and easily slid the heat shrink over the wire down to the boot on the starter motor.

Make sure you leave enough heat shrink on the wire so that when you bend it back into position it does not pull away from the boot leaving wire exposed....that happened on the first try.

Hope this helps..

Mine also is ate up. Noticed it the other day when I was troubleshooting my neutal light staying on after riding in the rain. Light is still dim about a week later.
