Been awhile since I updated my progress. I Started reassembly by remounting the rear swing arm and I have just about finished all of the polishing.

This is the only before photo available for the engine case:

Cases ready for reassembly:

Polished and unpolished fork tubes:

Blued pipe I started to hand polish.

1 down....sorry round chrome is hard to photo when it's too cold to photo outside. :job:

Sorry, no good after photo's from the above angle, but believe me the whole pipe looks this good. I have actually stopped looking at pipes because I like the way mine have cleaned up.

Good job!!!

What did you use on your pipes? I'm planning on removing mine and doing the same thing really soon.

What did you use on the chrome? Maddog has this stuff called Bluejob, but I haven't found a tarnished piece of chrome yet to try it out.

I took them to my buffer and stacked 2 40 ply spiral sewn soft cotton wheels for a combined thickness 0f 1\4" or so and used the white compound and a very light touch. To polish them up I experiment with combo's of string buff, wizards, hot rims, mr buffer and some buffing balls until it looked like I wanted it to. If you buff the chrome too hard it will score it irrepairably. It's gonna be duller with a goldish tint anyway in some cases, but that's working with chrome. It will still blind you in the sun though!

I have been meaning to try that blue job stuff, I hear it's great! Apparently it's the only 1 I don't have at the moment. I have blue away and I've put it on and buffed lightly. I have colonel brassey that Martin Bros rec, but its kinda gritty to me. I like the less abrasive stuff that won't dull the chrome too much. Takes more buffing and time, but it's worth it. Like anything else you have to experiment until you find what works for your particular application. A buffing ball (foam or chamois) with flitz is good for polishing in some cases. Foam ball first followed with the chamois.

Are you going to seal the polished aluminum with anything? (I bought Zoopseal, but am a week away from my application).

Just a thought.
