broken frame

hi everyone out there just wanted to know if anyone has ever had a problem with the frame on a 2000 pro sport i was washing my bike today and noticed the frame on my bike was broken on one of the welds !!!!!!??????so bad i cant even ride it wtf called my insurance co. i will find out mon or tues just dont know what is going to go down with it new frame,weld and re powdercoat all i know is its a big job alot of labor and a pain in the ass so let me know if anyone has had this problem i would like to know how it turned out for you any response would be great thankyou fellow big dog owners :bang: frosty from nh:bang:

If your insurance even helps you at all I'd bet they'd total that bike before paying for labor on disassembly, welding, powder coating and reassembly. Good luck. Hope it turns out well for you.

Been there done that.

Had a local welder fab some spacer parts to the swingarm and weld in a new upright, plus blast and powder for 700.

Better than new.

Contact Brother Raywood............He had a broken Frame and got it taken care of from Big Dog,but now that they are no longer with us,I'am not sure what could be done to help you....he may have some good ideas though.......I pick his brain all the time.....I'am thinkin maybe section the tube that is broken,and insert solid steel slugs in its place,then reinstall tube and weld.....???

My 2000 Vintage Classic frame cracked at the top of the vertical behind the engine on both sides at 80 mph about 4-1/2 years and 40K miles or so after purchase new. My seat position raised about two inches as the rear suspension lifted the frame and separated at the broken welds. I was near an exit and was able to get off the road but the bike flexed and wobbled all the way to a parking spot just off the interstate. Fortunately, Mike at SW V-Twin in Grand Rapids, MI came and picked up the bike and negotiated a full warranty replacement of the frame by Big Dog. The new frame from the factory gained a lug reinforcement at the weld connection and I have had no issues since.

I would just find a good welder and take care of the problem myself. That's just my opinion.

you can probably get a new frame for the cost of the welder/fabricator.... depending on where and how bad the crack is i would be thinking new frame

Add another to the list, '08 Mastiff with crack in same spot as everyone else on the lower left rear near kick stand. Off to reinforce, weld, and powder coat frame.

This is why we always check before and after ride.

Newbe here, joined to research electrical issues. Looking over an '07 Mastiff I'm working on noticed a crack on the powder coat with rusty perimeter on the lower frame tube directly below the trans drive sprocket. I will point this out to the owner and let him deal with it on his own. I don't want the liability and don't need the potential problems of dealing with this.

My prosport frame broke as well. Unfortunately I didnt know about it until I was about to trade it in for a mastiff and the dealership noticed it and was forced to report it and now I have a salvage title for this bike. Just recently I had the bike stripped down to the frame to powdercoat it, so Its fixed just wish I could've fixed before they reported it.

Early dogs are generally a combo of one or the other.

Rolling thunder should have a little Canadian Maple leaf stamped on the frame.

Daytec went out of business as well in 2014.

You really have 3 choices here. (1). Weld frame and prime & paint
(2). Take bike apart, sand blast frame, weld frame and powder coat. (3) buy either new frame or rolling chassis,one of BDM still on flea bay or Bigdogpartski and remount everything. Personally, I would do #2!
