breaking up hard accel / 31 int. jet????

Here we go again. Bike was popping anytime I let off the throttle. Took it to the shop the backed down the Intermediate jet it got worse. So they put the 31 back. They made a call to vance & Hines they think it needs more back pressure. So thet installed a set of torque tubes and welded a washer in each pipe. Popping is reduced which is great but the bike breaks up in second gear when giving it full throttle. My question is will a larger intermediate jet do the trick? It's an 07 wood 590 cam, V&H 2/2 radius drag pipes, D&D spike air cleaner. I was thinking a 32 intermediate might be what's need. Also running a 76 main.

32 sounds good to me, it can't hurt anything other than to fat at the bottom.

If it popped worse when they went lower, then it would be obvious that their going the wrong direction.

I'm running 32 and 78 with 585, dual runner and V&H 2-2 w/ baffles. No popping and it screams

Definitely! I concur. Go up to a 32.

Ker, I ended up running the same as you at Sea Level, I had to go up to a 50 on the Air Bleed though. Now it screams!!! :whoop:

Torque cones are one of the worst things you can put into your exhaust system with these big inch motors. I know for a fact that V&H would not recommend it. Have you checked for an intake leak? Before you go to jetting, you should check a few things first...
-Spray intake manifold in area of seal with brake clean to test for intake leak.
-Check air screw setting and needle itself for wear.
-Check rubber plugs on top of carb for dry rot...this can cause an intake leak as well.
-Check accelerator pump nozzle for proper spray into throat of carb. If it does not fan out, then it's most likely plugged.

Popping is an indication of a Lean condition, so if anything, you will be going up on intermediate. But, if it's also breaking up on you with full throttle, that's in your main jet. But keep in mind, it might be breaking up for other reasons other than fuel. The stock ignition system in the BDM's are known to fail after time. So, you might be having two separate problems.

Bigdogtech01 I will double check for the air leaks. How can I check the stock ignition? Now that you mention it when I rode it, it actually felt low on power.
Thank you for the advice.

Changed out the int. jet to a 32. That did the trick slight deceleration popping but nothing I can't live with. My new problem might just be the ignition. It won't take full throttle at 3500 / 4000ish. This is a new issue cuz it didn't do it back in June. Any recommendations for an ignition module and how do I set it?

When you changed the netting you also changed the transformation to the main jet. This is controlled by the airbleed at 2500-3500 rpm range. Read about it in the S&S manual

Keep in mind cones are not recommender for large motors. You are running the pointed filter, did you remove the bowl vent as recommended by S&S? Still think its airbleed

Since I only have the smaller jet I thought I would try it. I had to order an 80 jet that wont be here til next week.
I took the cones out first thing. I replaced the exhaust gaskets with new also. The only restriction id the factory baffles with a washer welded on one end.(not my idea)
As far as the bowl vent screw I will have to take a look. I have the D&D spike air cleaner pointing forward.

X2, I had to go from the stock (.40) to a .50 ... S&S recommends starting at .48 if you need to go bigger. (FILES ATTACHED) What altitud are you at? 32 - 78 seems good to me.

and YES, GET RID of that Bowl Vent Plug. Also I would recommend you to install the air filter vertical.
