bike poppin backfiring

04 AIH Stalker bought for wife to ride, was backfiring at lower rpms and poppin. also her first time out started to die at about 35 mph then surged scared daylights outta her. i rode this thing for half hr bfore her never surged but did pop and bacfire a little. plugs indicate a little lean changed plugs tuned carb according to s&s still same where do i go from here jets?

Also check to make shire you are getting good flow of gas from the tank to carb

oh yea, bike wil sit and idle good, nice throttle response all day long... issues of poppin & surge while runnin (obviously...)

This could be a jetting issue and in the link I sent you they talk about popping/coughing at speed read that and see if that sounds like your issue if not I am shire someone with more info will chime in.

American Ironhorses were/are known for having some electrical problems with the ignition system. The ignitor is very common to fail after time. If you buy a set of spark checkers (ones that you plug into wires between spark plug and wire, with clear plastic and bulb inside) you can plug them in and ride the bike, when it starts to fail, look down and see if they are still firing like they should.
If it ends up being the ignitor, Daytona twin tec makes a replacement module for them.... Daytona Twin Tec LLC - TC88A Ignition for 2003-2004 Harley-Davidson
You can also spray your intake manifold for an intake leak. With bike warm and at idle, spray with brake/parts cleaner from right side of bike, onto intake manifold seal area (between manifold and head)
If idle changes at all, you have an intake seal leak.

+1 Started loosing my front cylinder. Then it was just completely gone. The twin tec module got me back on the road and wasn't hard to do.
