Thank you for you're service and welcome to the Big Dog Forum. Please remember that we all deal with the same issues and there are folks here that love Big Dogs here. Another words ranting will get you very little respect or help.

As far as parts like cam sensors and the like check out the vendors that frequent this site. Wildsteedworx would be a good start. Also keep in mind that these are high performance motorcycles and some parts are built to higher specifications than run of the mill HD parts. You will pay more for quality.

You didn't say what Big Dog you own. There are very few new ones being built and with the origional one approaching or already 20 years old some spefic parts are getting hard to find and just like collector cars the rarity of parts dictates the price.

I hope you get you're Big Dog sorted out. They are great bikes and you will enjoy riding it.

Welcome from North Central Mass., and thank you for your service to our great nation.

As FrankBDPS mentions (not to beat on the drum here), these parts in general are getting more difficult to get. HDM a great source for the majority of our parts has been working very hard to keep us all running.

Donna, Derek and Eric of HDM along with Curtis at Wildsteedworx do a great job with helping us keep our dogs running with their knowledge and innovation.

We as dog owners do rely on them, and there willingness/support with love and devotion in helping us.

One of the old ones.
Read post #2 again. Frank’s drum has the correct beat. Understand that almost all of these bikes were made before 2012. The company that made them went out of business and was resurrerected (small scale) about 2016 with many mechanical changes.
HDM, Inc. bought much of that old BD parts inventory, and continues to sell OEM parts, as well as finding alternatives or engineering new solutions to keep our bikes running. When those parts can be difficult if not impossible to get, HDM (and Wildsteedworx) are the only folks I’ve ever seen create solutions for us riders. For example they might find a business willing to make a bunch of replacement battery covers for Mutts and get it done. Problem is that maybe the business could make ‘em for $50 a copy if you ordered 20,000 of them, but guess how many Mutts out there need battery covers? Count ‘em on your fingers and still eat a bag of popcorn….. So HDM has to pay more for small lot production of those battery covers after all the OEM are sold. Sell you 2 of them and they have an $$$ inventory of the rest of them waiting to go to other Mutt owners who broke a tab on their battery covers. Good way to go broke……
You’re correct to yelp a bit about the battery covers—probably one of the best examples of an “OUCH!!” purchase for our bikes. If you can find a HD part to use and it works, feel free to do so—but this forum is the best place to learn how to keep that custom Dog barkin‘ at reasonable cost. And some guys comb salvage bike sites for parts like you need, etc.
I don’t know if you can edit the title of this thread, but if you can, you should.
Like Frank says, hopefully you’ll really enjoy your Big Dog—this forum will help you keep it in tip-top shape.

Thanks Everyone!! I will keep looking and hopefully I will find one... Like HMAN says ....."Cool aint cheap".
anyway... When I got my bike it came with 3 boxes of extra parts like controls, pegs, speedo, starter, windshields, etc.... plus the original 117 motor that has around 8000 miles on it that's setting in my garage... any ideas what I could get for these things?
