The back rest looks like it's for a Harley, and the 4 rings are windshield attachments

I agree, Shannon. The removable backrest bracket looks like the Harley copy of the original kit that Big Dog issued with the Vintage Classic (like I have on mine). The studs that the BD original mounted to look a lot like the ends of the 4 rings. I wonder if the previous owner thought he might remove them from the rings and modify them to replicate the stud attachment to the fender strut like mine is. If those star connectors back out and allow the slotted disc to come off, a clever guy might be able to mount them into a threaded stud that would then mount into the fender strut and allow the removable bracket to mount on them. My guess is he had an idea and either could not figure it out or I am full of baloney, lol.
