Hi there I purchased a 2005 bulldog and shipped it over to Australia. Ive only had it a couple weeks and the bike shut down. the horn went off. so i removed the earth from the battery whilst on the side of the road and then started to check the wiring so i placed the earth wire on with the ignition off and the speedo powered up and horn sounded so i removed the horn wire so i had piece and quiet. but still can't figure out why theres power to my speedo with the ignition off. it also ruined my brand new battery ist now useless. Ive tried to do some diagnostics with a new battery power to the EHC but none on the other side. Does it sound like its the EHC or possibly something else

Ruined the battery? Overcharging? Could well be EHC, but something caused it, faulty Voltage Regulator?

I also took it into my local Harley shop as theres not to many bike shops around here they told me they have tested the voltage regulator and it seems ok. whats your thoughts

Sounds to me like a short, unplug the EHC and try some dielectric grease and only plug one connector in at a time to see which if anything happens with each, that will narrow it down on which harness if there is a short.
The other thing would be to remove the tank and unplug the speedo connector and see if that's the short

ok awesome ill try that.
I was going to purchase a ehc as it seems its a matter of when it fails not if. But Im still unsure of which one to buy. The DOC or axels which i believe is for sale at bigdog is back. any thoughts and recommendations. as I'm certainly no electrical guru

I did pull every connector apart and spray electroclean on them prior to taking it to the harley shop but ill definitely try what you suggested

The new Big Dog only has the RIP kits, I personally along with many others have DOC's ESC and have been running trouble free, however Axel's is the simplest, just literally 2 connections, remove the old EHC and plug the new one in its place, but its very new, however working well.

:agree: If your wire harness is not in the best condition, DOC's ESC is most definitely the way to go..over 7k trouble-free miles for me..:old2:
