Anyone ever used a clay bar on thier paint? Just wondering if it really made a difference.
I clay-bar my bikes once or twice per year and yes...it does make a big difference. Once you've clay-barred, it's a good opportunity to go over the paint with Meguiar's 'SwirlX' or Victory 'Scratch, Scuff & Swirl Remover' to remove hairline scratches...THEN follow with a good wax (clay bar removes all the old wax). I use Meguiar's NXT Generation Tech Wax2.0 - good stuff! But everyone has their favorites, and to each his own!

I like the feel of the paint after I clay bar feels like glass. Then I go over with Chemical Guys Butter wet wax made for Black/dark paint keeps it looking wet and glossy. It's the stuff I use on my Black Z06

I like Meguiar's, but I'm always looking for the Holy Grail - the "perfect wax" for my K9's black/candy red paint!

Do you have a website link for the wax you use? Thanks bro!

I going to suggest this site because I use it, go to Green Laser Pointer, Microfiber Mop, Microfiber Towel, Green Cleaning, Zymol Wax, Swiss Tech they have excellent microfiber at a very reasonable price.

Go to the HOME Microfiber tab and get the Monster white towels 16"x16". I have found these to be the best at $9.95 ea. they also sell a microfiber towel detergent that I use.

:2thumbs:

For wax and polish or detail spray, you guy's might want to try Adam's Polishes , this is deffinately a step up from the wax you can buy locally.

MICRO FIBER!!
Make sure and get the 80/20 blend as they are better then the 70/30 blend.

Inside of old sweats (shirts and pant). I even use these on my fender under luggage and never seems to scratch. Cheap too at the thrift stores!

Shovelcowboy
I'm with shovel 100% cotton fleece from old sweats. I don't like the feel of teh micro fiber towels.

I've always used Micro-Fiber cloth's and always used Original Bike Spirits Spray Cleaner. That stuff is awesome.

I only use micro fiber and quick detailer on my bikes. If they are really dirty I will give them a quick bath with a good car soap and dry with my air compressor.

I first use 100% cotton, then go to flannel for the finial shine. Take the back of any cd and try microfiber and look at the small scratches, then try cotton and then flannel and you can see for yourself.

Costco microfiber towels just like Vegas said!! But, you can wash them and reuse just don't use fabric softener on them.. You dampen one with water only and wipe with a second one..:2thumbs:

Microfiber towels, I get mine at Sam's club. 24 scratch & lint free towels for 10 bucks. I use the soft cotton, on the inside of old washed sweatshirts, to buff the billet. Both can be washed, and re-used.

Good qulaity, clean microfiber cloths (do not use Bounce, etc, when drying) on the paint; and 100% cotton only on chrome and polished billet aluminum.
That's the ticket no hairline scratches...in my experience, anyway. :2thumbs:

I agree...two things that do not touch my finish chrome are Liquid Glass and microfiber cloths...bad experiences with both.
I'm a big fan of 100% cotton...Harley Softcloths are spun cotton and work well too.:2thumbs:

use micro fiber to lightly finish wiping areas I am polishing, billet and chrome , but I use old soft cotton rags, not T shirts, tooooo rough. I have found you can use old insulated underwear and cut it up in rags. I really like to use it cut up in long strips to do the pegs. You can get the shoe shine thing going and put pressure on it and clean it faster. Then wipe off with micro fiber but not rub the crap out if it. Micro fiber will put super tiny hair line scratches cause it is basically plastic rag.

The softest cotton rags I can find for the painted stuff, and the rest of it too. I do use micro fiber a little, but I am really more into elbow grease. I have actually waxed the paint off the truck I used to drive! I have waxed the truck I drive now 34 times, wax on , wax off. I have polished the crap out of this scooter too. I used micro fiber at first and thought I was doing it right, but started deeing those fine spider web scratches, and have backed off since then.

You can get those super fine scratches out (elbow grease and pateince) by taking Mother's Billett polish and rubbing it in those places just with your finger until it gets real black, than wipe it off and keep doing it until they go away.

The hardest part of polishing the scooter like that isn't the actual polishing, I enjoy that part. The hardest part is getting up off your butt, off the concrete. My legs get stiff and I can't get up.
