Best Carb Option

'09 K-9 is at Xlerated Custom Cycles in Austin, Texas getting Wild Steed Worx Wire-Plus Big Dog ecm replacement (lol). While I'm at it, New tappets and rods, roller rockers, triple springs and an S&S .600 cam. (Certainly the cylinders will be miked for proper honing, New rings and gaskets, etc) I don't plan to deck the jugs or otherwise increase compression as I'd like to still ride on regular 93 octane.

Given that, what are suggestions for carb upgrades, beyond re-jetting?

I've had XXX in mind but thought I'd put this out for feedback from y'all.

I'm open to suggestions and especially with direct experience.
I'll look forward to asking similar clutch/transmission questions.

Thanks!

Deck the heads or cut the cylinders. You will be glad you did. Call John Sachs a member here and let him do your carb. He is as good as they get. You can still run 91 octane gas with that cam and 10.5:1 C R.

X-2

Decking the Heads .030 and using Comatic Base Gasket at 0.010 part # C9931(Stock Gaskets are .020) using the Comatic head gasket at .030 part # 9935 (Stock head Gasket is .047 compressed) will bump your compression 10.5 to one and still be able to run pump gas. I went that route instead of cutting the jugs. The above is what I have and use the Woods 650 cam. You can certainly run the S & S 600 without any issues. John Sacs is highly recommended to do the head work. I would go with the bigger intake and exhaust valves along with the squish grooves. Those groves are cut in the head to eliminate detonation. You wont be sorry. TRIPLE XXX carbs are great, however, if John Sacs can set your Carb up for the combination you want then I would go to him. One other thing you should consider is the Thunder Heart adjustable timing Ignition module or a different brand just so you can adjust your timing. That in it self will make a big difference. If your going to do it might as well get err done right the first time. :2thumbs:

Anything worth doing is worth over-doing; moderation is for cowards. I'm all-in, just want some experienced feedback to get it right. Thank you, fellas. Looks like I need to give John a call.

Can anyone point me in John's direction? Screen name or something? I'd like to send a pm and touch-base

I spoke with John Sachs today....talk about a wealth of knowledge and experience! He's working my heads and carb and talking directly with the fellas at Xlerated Customs to help make sure my K-9 will be the arm-ripper-offer it should be.....you see, I have this thing for the throttle. I'm shaking from withdrawal without her, but drooling about what's comin. Thanks again for the direction, fellas.

If you want to get John going ask him about the yellow Ford Van. He is quite q character. If I ever get to Fla. His shop is on my list of places to visit.

There will be pics, posts, and vids of results. John is a guru. Chris and Lee at Xlerated Customs in Austin are on board and soaking in John's wealth of knowledge. My K9 is going to be a throttle addicts dream. I can't wait to pull up next to some stupid cbr or mustang or some shit...or for that matter, a long curvy road through Texas hill country....If the bike crosses the line first and my arms are still on the grips, I still win. I'm layin of the chicks for a while and spending my extra scratch on my chopper....priorities. I'll include build detail specifics as they are made solid to share the wealth. Y'all have been amazing support. I'll be happy if not proud. to share. It'll be a month I bet.
And it's killing me. I'm buying a roadglide asap as a backup, lol

R.I.P kit installed (and looks much more stout the the original ehc or wire-plus), new tires, breaks, tappets, .600 cam....

The heads and carb are shipping to John Sachs in the morning. I hope I can hold my breath a little longer; I'm having withdrawel but I'm stoked with anticipation.

Thanks for all the advice, fellas! I'll let y'all know how she rides as soon as she's back together and I break in the new rings.

Thanks for great direction pointing me to John Sachs. His wealth of experience is surpassed only by his friendly and humble nature. John's valve, head and carburator work are inspired (my best description would do no justice), and his consulting is as generous as divine. Chris and Lee at Xlerated Customs were as meticulous careful and precise as I could have hoped. The results of their combined efforts have me picking bugs out of my smile. I just can't help it when I ride now. My K9 is a different bike and my S&S 117 the engine it always wanted to be...snappy, torquey, and just trying to tear my arms off. Their may be room yet for fine tuning with no programmable ignition, fancy intake or exhaust, so I have a little decel back-firing and low rpm hickups, but on the throttle my K9 is is a hot pup, and still very streetable.
I've got a bug-eating grin, for sure!!
