Thanks for all the thoughts and advice.

But maybe its just trying to beat everybody else every time I leave from a stop :)

The tire does not appear to be rubbing anywhere on the fender, and thia wear pattern is consistent with that 1,000 miles on the freeway that is very atypical of my normal riding.

I'll just order new ones at 2800 miles and quit complaining. :)
I agree, it's doubtful it's rubbing without you feeling or hearing it. Tires have a manufactured date on them maybe your getting old tires from where you are buying them. https://www.utires.com/articles/read-date-code-motorcycle-tires/

Sorry to hear you missed out on your trip to the Sisters. The worst mileage I was getting was on Metzlers and they were wore out at 4500 miles. I usually get around 7000 on my Avons. Never tried the Shinko's.

had same issues - back tire showing thread after about 3,500 - 4,000 miles. Had this with both Avon and Metzeler and no passenger.
Likewise had a bigger "rub off" on the left side of the tire......was told that is because the road is tilted to enable water draining off. So, keeping the bike upright it uses up the tire more on the left side.

Somethings wrong dude, perhaps multiple things. I easily get 8-9 k out of mine.

Appears to me something is rubbing. At best the wear pattern should be relatively even (no groves) with slightly more on the left due to crown.
