Yah, I thought that was interesting too...although it didn't say 'on display', it said that it had been on the showroom floor, so it could've been for sale this whole time...not sure.I saw that they sold bike number one of the aniv edition. They had it as a display, so you can read into that what you will.
You could try to work something out as a contractor and not an employee... like they call you in for a paint job and pay you per project. It can keep their overhead down, get a top notch artist and it still leaves you free to run your own business.Who knows.
I know that I will never "put all my eggs in one basket". Especially if that basket is held by someone who will give you the axe after you give them everything you have...
The one thing that I'm sure of, is that they would forbid me from painting Bigdogs on the side (if I worked there). But doing just this is the only thing that has kept my family afloat during this hard economy. So I don't think I would give that up very easily.
Ed, have you contacted high-end bike builders around the country to become their "go-to-guy" for their super custom paint jobs? I'm heading to Phoenix tomorrow for AZ Bike Week and I know there's a number of them just in Phoenix alone (Bourget, Yaffe, Nasi, Swift, Saxon, ssinisterchoppers.com, etc) who should be interested in your excellent work. Have you sent portfolios to them for consideration? Better yet, maybe go out and visit them personally. Might be worth a shot! Also, what about advertising in custom bike magazines? There's one out of Canada which I subscribe to and has a growing US and International distribution. It's called "Revolution Motorcycle Mag" (Revolution Motorcycle Mag, The First Canadian Custom Bike Magazine) - very classy and high quality, filled with awesome custom bikes and paint schemes...check it out. In the US, only "Barnett's" magazine comes close to it (IMO). Good luck - hope everything works out for you. :up:In my experiences, upper management usually doesn't like to be strong-armed into special stipulations. They'd probably just tell me to F off.
That's correct.... i was in Wichita last month for the SAE aerospace engineering meeting....I was staying at the Marriot, and "Big Dog" was just a few blocks away....I got a very warm welcome from the "Big Dog Team" and they were preparing to re-call employees to build bikes for there overseas sales :2thumbs:BDM is doing alot better and getting ready to bring people back because of over seas sales. That is what Five Five told me as he just toured the factory and the employees were very upbeat.
Unfortunately, in most cases it takes money, to make money. That would cost a lot to travel to call on builders (plus take time from working on paying projects) and advertising in a national/international magazine is ungodly expensive...local advertising is tough enough to afford!Better yet, maybe go out and visit them personally. Ed, surely that isn't in reference to my beloved state of Oklahoma!Might as well kill myself now.
well I hate to tell you this but I've been in my own bussines for 8 yrs now.. its TOUGH........ I work more hrs & harder than if employer by a company.. if anyone thinks owning you own bussiness is easy & the money just pours in well your WRONG....... I dont do the work you do.. but I have alot of hrs in every week & lots of worring about how I'm gona make it sometimes.. my customers take advantage of you.. ruin your weekends, call all hrs even on holidays.. but that bussiness.. hang in there.. your talent will & has shined through...just keep doing what you can.. no fun in bussiness,, but then no company to stab you in the back,, oh wait the govt will do that.. I just finished my taxes,,,,,,,, keeping payroll going, bussiness insurance, taxes, inventory, jobs comming in/out & then some M/F wont pay you,, I feel you pain,, good luck bro..hay bussiness owners are all RICH dont ya know.. yeah right...The constant "hustle" will drain you after awhile. Sometimes it's easier to just go to work, and then come home and chill. When I work for myself, it's often 24/7. I usually work every day on something. It gets old. This is supposed to be FUN!!!
Aww, it is. Most of the time.
