BDL drive

I have a BDL belt drive. The clutch seemed to go away as the clutch lever went limp. I bought a new cable. It was not the cable that broke. I went to check the adjustment where there is a allen and nut on the left side of the bike. When I pull the clutch lever in, I can see the clutch basket open up some, but I also see the starter gear move with it as I pull lever. I also see the outside support flex with it. Should all of this be moving with the basket opening and closing?

The clutch hub went bad. It seems the entire hub is aluminum, even the splines that slide onto the shaft. Might have been overtightened they say. The best belt drives have clutch hubs have a steel insert where the splines are so this could never happen. So new clutch hub and all is well.
