Energy One
Current concern on this bandit clutch. here are the facts
concerning what to use and what NOT to use from the builder of the bandit clutch himself john.

NOte: i just ordered and rec'd this bandit super clutch .

Hi,john,

Wow,Talk about FAST SHIPPING., Just arrived today. Thanks for a great experience. I will hopefully have it installed next week.

Question : i'm on the site http://www.bigdogbiker.com/forums/how/2329-how-bandit-superclutch-carrier-install.html

This is where i've learned about your super clutch , says your reccomend AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR sae 75w-90. (which i bought some)but
the papers you sent recommends Golden Spectro motorcyle ger lub sae 80 or Bel ray Geaar saver 75w... So i wanted to get clarity. What is the BEST. WHAT do you reccomend.and based on the bigdog forum its' stating
amsoil. YOur the expert. What is the pro's / vs cons of all 3.?

Thanks for you AWESOME BUSINESS.

God bless.

Neil.

to me
Neal - DON'T use that amsoil 75w-90. We don't recommend amsoil. I think the guy who posted that is an amsoil distributor or something, I can't think of any other reason for him to post that. I don't have anything against Amsoil, I've just never tested it.

We don't recommend any full synthetic oils, they are usually too slippery to work in a clutch properly, and can make it slip. Plus 75w-90 oils are intended for ring and pinion applications and are too thick to let the clutch release properly. We haven't tested that oil, and we've never recommended it. If you want to use an Amsoil product, you can use their ATF fluid, it's intended for use with friction materials. ATF is not as good a lubricant for the chain, and it tends to leak out all your gaskets and o-rings, so most users prefer an oil.

The Golden Spectro is a semi-synthetic and has friction modifier additives in it to work with a clutch. That's the right thing to use, we've tested it, and it's what we sell here and use here. The Bel Ray is also a semi synthetic, seems to work just as well, and it can be easier for some folks to find.

note: Seems bandit machineworks is NOT recommending amsoil gear lube what so ever, It's NOT the right product for big dog wet clutches.

I belive in sharing the info and tell it like it is.
If anyone has any issues with this in terms as if this info is correct.I suggest plz contact john from bandit works website as i did , Straight from the makers of this HIGH END PRODUCT.

Neil.

AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR sae 75w-90 is good for the transmission (that's what I use) not for the primary. It is an transmission product not a clutch product.
Anyway there are several post here that says synthetic for primary is not good it cause clutch slippery.

If you don't mind me asking , how much did that bandit super clutch set you back ? I don't see pricing on their web site. Good luck on the install, I'll be following your post to read some review's

how much to you put in your transmission , and do you have any issues?
what kind of big dog do you have? year etc.

i'm willing to try it , just don't want to harm anything. The main thing for me is to keep my bike's temp cool.

Definitely go with the Spectro oil. I have the bandit clutch in mine and used the Amsoil for about a year or so. Finally, after getting sick of hard shifting, slipping, and near impossible finding neutral while standing still I switched to the Spectro they recommend. It was a complete night and day difference! You would have sworn I put in a new clutch.

Just my $.02 from exprerience. Spectro for the Bandit clutch is definitely the way to go.

I use the bel ray because the local guy carries it. 600 miles since new bandit install and 0 issues. Love the clutch. Night and day over stock setup.

Currently i'm not experienced enought to do such an install, I had a shop put it in.

I even printed the step by step from this site to aid him. WENT WELL. no hiccups.

The clutch works fine. I am noticing the pull in clutch is very stiff. I recall reading
it should be easier ITS' NOT.

I think the mechanic set the tenison too tight.

On the up side. i bought this clutch for it's the best you can buy and i dont' want to put
cheap parts on a high performance bike.

You won't regret it. Best $$ I've spent on the dog!

That is funny!!!!!

That was my how-to up in the first post of this thread that was linked.

I am NOT a Amsoil dealer. I had never ever used Amsoil before I bought my bandit clutch. And had to buy that oil from another dealer to even put it in my primary. I asked them if I could run anything else and they said no.

I have the original installation instructions that say, by Bandit, to use nothing BUT Am so I'm full synthetic Severe Gear lube!!!!

I have been running Am so I'm Severe Gear in my primary for 5 years with no issues.

I'm going to call those Bastards tomorrow and find out why they highly recommended Amsoil and now say they have never even tested let alone, recommended using it!

My instructions said Golden Spectro 80. I just installed the Bandit on my Ridgeback a couple weeks back and have taken two 300 mile trips with no issues plus weekly commutes of 72 miles each day to and from work. Everything is great...:D :2thumbs:

I don't know where my paperwork is at this time but I believe Jake is right, I bought one 6-7 years ago and believe that is what was recommended.

I believe that S&S has change recommended oil 2 or 3 times in the last ten years, might have something to do with $$$$. :)

Lots said & discussed in the Forum about which oils to use.... several threads on this subject.

I went out of my way to find Amsoil in Europe... finally I am importing it from Ireland as the only Amsoil dealer in Spain went bankrupt

Anyway, I am using Amsoil in all 3 holes; motor, trans & primary since I first got the bike in 2011 and I´ve had no issues whatsoever.

Just my :zz2cents:

Yes, they did. Not only have they changed several times, at one point S&S had conflicting information on their own site vs what they had in print.

Bandit clutch concern

It's been some time now. ( a year infact)
and i wanted to reach out to those who have installed this clutch.

I"M trying to resolve why the cluth level is VERY HARD to pull in. ( i mean very hard)

It does have its 1/8 play yes. but i'm wondering if the shop installed it way to tight.

Can this be ajusted for easier pull and how.

I"m concerned it TOO TIGHT aND WILL break or wear prematurely.

Can i ajust the pull eary very hard on the cluthc adjustment?
or do i have to do something withe the 14 plates?

Neil.

There are shims behind the springs
I only used one shim
Additionally you may want to check your clutch cable.
Hard pull is often caused by a dirty or improperly lubed cable.
