Bandit Bruiser Clutch???

About a month ago, I started hearing a squeal from the primary area of my bike. I finally pulled the outer primary and clutch, and discovered the carrier bolts were touching off on the inner primary. I ordered a Bandit and at the time was told I needed a .050" shim to put behind the carrier to ensure I had clearance between the carrier and the inner primary. Bandit says that the tollerances are so tight on the Baker drive that the Bandit carrier will probably make contact with the inner primary as well cause the tranny input shaft flexes under the load. Problem is that my engine sprocket and my clutch sprocket are perfectly aligned with each other now. If I put a shim behind the carrier, then my sprockets will be mis-aligned. Bandit said if I pull my inner primary and send it to them, they will mill it down .050-.100". About a two week turnaround. I got the new clutch today and its like: Shit! I can't even put it in.
Anybody ever experience this? What did you do? Got any opinions?
Thanks.

You really only have two options here.
1) Install the shim behind the carrier assy and grind a little out of the case.
2) Have the Bandit machined down a bit.

Been there done that ;) The shim will not have you out of alignment far enough to hurt anything. You will still be within the range that is ok....The shim they are talking about was/is a factory big dog part and even the stock carrier had some problems with the bolts on the carrier hitting the inner primary. Big dog started using this shim in 06.

Interesting you guys mention this. When I ordered the rebuild kit from Baker to rebuild my DSSC trans there was a mystery washer in the kit that I don't remember seeing on the disassemble. looking at the spec sheet it stated that this was shim you are mentioning. I have the upgraded Baker clutch 9 disc and I had some rubbing as well. I also had an outer input shaft bearing fail causing the shaft to slightly wobble in and out. When i installed everything back I checked the alignment and with the shim and without. The front sproket alignment with the clutch was better with this washer/shim. I installed it to prevent the chain from touching inner primary bolts and basket from touching the inner primary. Bobby is right, it won't be enough to cause a problem with alignment. In my case it was better with the shim. I would install it as opposed to having the basket milled down. slips right on behind the transmission seal. I never heard the squeel noise in mine but i did occassionally hear a clanging noise and when i pulled the primary cover off I knew right off that my primary chain was too loose. I had an inch of travel in the chain. good luck
