back on the road

I finally got my bike back after three months in the shop and just in time for some nice riding weather in Ohio before the weather turns. This thing rides perfectly and I hope I can keep it this way for a very long time, otherwise it will be a very large paperweight, or I will transform it into a cool coffee table. Three months ago I was riding through a tunnel and revved the motor to about 6,000 rpm for several seconds and that caused significant internal damage to my highly modified and built motor. The pushrods were bent, tappet blocks destroyed, valves bent, valve covers cracked, and valve guides smashed. So… I had the motor rebuilt with upgraded beefy S&S .095” wall pushrods, heavy duty S&S tappets with limiters, I changed out my too aggressive cam with a T-man .625 lift, and re-machined my valve pockets .020” deeper for an extra cushion against possible valve float. So after an additional $3621.95 in the rebuild, I can say that I am surprised my wife hasn’t killed me. For the money I have dumped into this motor, I could have bought another Big Dog. In summary, leave your motor alone. I am convinced these motors are inferior to an S&S crate motor; you can modify the hell out of those with a large margin of safety. Happy riding.

Moral of the story, stay out of the rve chambers(tunnels) evidently they are only good for less than 6gs.

Glad that you're up and running again. Are you still on the juice with that new motor?

No. It is hooked up and functional however I do not plan on using it. If anything else happens to the motor I will go insane.

You have to pay to play. Power cost money and reliability. Once you get to the big boy ranks your best to be your own wrench, otherwise there is little room for complaints. Enjoy your time in the wind
