Well just got back from my Arizona had a great time. Covered over 1200 miles in four days. Flew into Phoenix, rented a Road Glide from Chester's in Mesa and took off on my trip. A bit about the bike.....2011 with a 103" motor, thought it might have some balls....wrong......thing was running so lean, kept pinging like it had sonar. I actually called Chester's to tell them how lean it was running, the said just shift at a higher RPM:eek: Ok, I'll shift at 4500 to 5 grand no problem........ not my bike (still pinged by the way) Granted, had the wife on back and some luggage on back, maybe with some pipes and flash might get some power out of it.
Anyway, stayed the first night in Scottsdale....early off the next day to Prescott, dropped off some luggage and rode up to Jorome. Up RT 89A 158 curves in 12 miles very nice scenic ride, elevation 6000 feet, some sheer cliffs, would like to ride this by myself on the dog not the boat I was riding.
Jorome has to be one of my favorite towns in AZ. Went into a wine shop and spoke to the woman who's family owns a winery, she said when she came to Jorome there were only 70 people there, she also said the Angels used to have big parties in the town back in the day. Ate at the Haunted Hamburger (great food by the way) and had a couple of beers in some other bars then back to the hotel in Prescott.
Next day back up through Jorome to Sodona and stopped at Flagstaff up through some more great roads to Page. Had an interesting ride from Flagstaff to Page. About 40 miles outside Page is an area that looks like slag piles with loose blowing soil, when I say blowing I mean sustained 35 to 40 mph winds with gusts of 50+ with dirt mixed in as blast media:eek: The wife was shitting:rant: I have to admit, riding with bike at a 30 degree angle to compensate for the cross wind was a bit of a challenge but I got a thrill out of it:loony:
Off the next day from Page through the Grand Canyon, Canyon is nice but after about five view points I was ready to ride on. Next stopped at a small town called Williams and had a Mexican lunch and a few beers then on to Kingman is located on the famous Rt 66. Didn't really see much in Kingman, had a few beers then off to bed.
Up early the next day in Kingman, had a long ride to Phoenix, decided to take RT 66, nice small towns on 66, old towns where time seems to have stood still, (love that old shit) Stopped at a few of these towns, but had to have the bike back by 5pm, so put the hammer down, (pinging and all) You can ride for miles at 90 mph with no problem.
One last interesting thing, on the way back to Mesa to drop the bike off, again the wind was an issue. Think I was on RT 60 or something, going about 80, I see a fuckin tumble weed about 1/8 mile ahead, this is a very busy 4 lane highway at the start of rush hour.....so I see this car hit this tumble weed so it flies through the air.........I'm going 80 with 30 MPH cross wind what's the chances.......fuckin thing comes right at me hit's the front faring and wraps around the front end like a blanket...old lady shit:eek::spank: had to get off on the shoulder with this speeding traffic and a fuckin prickly pear blanket around the front end. This thing wasn't small either, it was about 4 foot in diameter. If you don't know what this tumble weed shit is, I can only describe it as a picker bush that was cut off at the base and blows in the wind:bang: If I would have been riding a cycle without a faring, I would have looked like Jesus with a crown of thorn's except covering my whole face and top half of my body.
Hope I got all my stops in order In my story:confused:

Will I do this again? Hell yes......maybe not with the wife.
By the way, I'll post some pics as soon as I can.
Oh, great to be back on the dog again:2thumbs:

Sounds awesome. Was over in January, and did most of the same route. Incredible scenery around Sedona. Would have preferred to have been on my K9, rather than in a Ford though!! Well done, and lucky with the weed.......

Thanks for posting your ride details! :2thumbs:

I love AZ and was out there for bike week, but didn't get to put on the miles you did (I only racked up about 750).
Never made it up to the Grand Canyon, though - maybe next time!

Glad you enjoyed a fun, safe trip! :)
