Avon vs. Metzeler 300 rear tires

I have seen talk about the new Avon tires not lasting any time, and having cracking and wear problems. I have seen nothing that would indicate they have solved these issues. I had a 250 Avon Venom put on the back of my Pitbull, had no trouble, but sold it before I racked up many miles.
Now, I need a new rear 300 for my 06 Ridgeback and don't want to regret my choice.
Does anybody have experience with the Metzeler for their rear 300?
Are sizes and profiles the same?
How about belt rubbing?
I could use some advice,
Thanks,

I have yet to have the issues others have described here with the Avons, not saying the issues didn't occur just saying I haven't experienced them.
I did run Metzlers once on my 06 K9 and I did not like them. Others here now swear by them but then that's what makes us human. I had to shave an 1/8" off the Metzler 300 I ran as it was rubbing the belt. Not a big deal really. The wear was awful and they didn't last any longer than the Avon.

My experience with both Avons and Metzeler on 300's is this, Avons last longer, Metzer did not fit rubbed on the belt, so my new tire this time was an Avon, worked great the two times I tried them, like warm on the Metzeler so I bought Avon again the third time.... Sid not need to carve the edge off and lasted longer.
