At what point do you trade up

I got my 03 Pit around August of last year and man do I love this bike. I've done a few things to it and as I write out the list of things I want to do and can reasonably afford I tell myself - Why don't I just try and sell the dog and put this money towards a new one. Then I hit myself over the head and think, well my current bike is paid for, and I kinda feel loyal to my bike because she's always treated me well but instead of doing all of these mods, I sometimes think I should just get a new one. Of course the dilema is - once I have the new bike I'm gonna want to do all of these mods to THAT bike!

dilemas dilemas.

At what point did you guys decide to trade dogs and why?

well haze....I guess to each their own.....some people like to ride their bikes for a few years and get new ones....and some buy them and don't sell them....it all depends on the situation......

Haze, I've been thinking the samething. I have owned my bike from new and I'm getting bored with it. But I know I will take a huge ass kicking when I sell. So I have been thinking of buying a new chassi and using my drive train to build something new. Something to think about.

My car dealer friends trade cars the way my wife changes shoes. But, they seem to keep their bikes longer. I think the trick is to have two bikes (at least): a custom and a bike for long rides (dresser/bagger). But hey, I just got my BDM and that is more than enough for me right now! Enjoy

I think about the same things mentioned above. I bought the dog when I was on tight budget and got a GREAT deal so I jumped on it. Its paid off, so I've told myself why would I ever sell it. I can use the drive train and build something else, I could make it my project bike, etc. Then the thought of having two bikes of course crosses my mind. One to work on and one thats good to ride. But would I rather have ONE bad ass bike or two nice ones.

like everything...i guess it really just comes down to money and I need more of it!

Haze, the only thing I can point out is that so many of our bikes become a part of us. They typically are a reflection of our personality. Once we have the basic mold, the shaping begins and we turn around one day and usually it has taken a more evolved form.

Some guys like to have the latest greatest and others are content with the most basic. Either way, to each his own.

Earlier you said it was paid off. Not sure if you have asked this question of yourself yet but.....

WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU THINKING!!!!

Like you said, if you bought another one, you would want to expand on the basic mold as it comes.

Make YOUR bike your own.

Just my 2 cents.

Keep in mind I still have some payments to make on mine, have a ton of mods I want to do and have a tough time justifying dropping the cash on them with the economy in the state it is in.

Wishin mine was paid off.

I bought mine with intentions of keeping it and make mods to it. I love riding it and besides unless you are trading for new technology, once you ride a new bike it becomes a "used" bike then. Besides I need a new truck when this things paid for. Like said above "to each his own".

I plan to keep my bike for a very long time, and have always gotten very attached to "my stuff"...

I think you would take an even bigger beating on your mods than purchasing a new bike, so why change things if you are plannining selling your bike in the near future...

If you like the style of the new Pitbulls better, then next year would probably be the time to trade up... Or if you like the Mastiff, Ridgeback, or K9... Not to mention the Wolf ?!?

But the bottom line is:
We all know that when you buy your bike - it is truly unbelievable, but you will always have 1 or 2 more things before she is "Perfect" :loony:

re

I will also be keeping mine for awhile. I'd put the extra money towards the mods, or like already said...get a frame and start from scratch. Enjoy the paid off bike...I'm snowballing payments on mine, and by September, hopefully I'll be done.

my bike is kinda like the hot wife. Yeah she's hot and people look at her, i'm attached to her, I enjoy banging the shit out of her, she's loyal, etc.

but that 22 year old swimsuit model that keeps looking at me, is gonna cost - but damn I want her!!!!!!

Mcgroom, I couldn't agree with you more....your bike is a reflection of your personality....I can't imagine parting ways with Night Train, it was my first real cruiser, and its just the way I wanted it...blacked out, and I have so much history with that bike. I can't even think of selling it....even with the
K-9 in the stable, I still make sure I get plenty of time on the Train.

Unless I was changing bike models I cant see getting rid of a bike that you have already done a bunch of mods on. If it had 100,000 miles on her and was ten years old maybe but relatively new nah. It is also already paid for and that never hurts.

I say keep her, give her some new tits, and get a new leisure riding one to go with her. 2 at once is always the best.... :zwhistle:
