It´s good to read that the problem is solved
About washing the bike: I had washed my with pressure a few years ago and had put it in the garage for the winter time. The problem was not the electric in this case but the bearings of the wheels and the steering head. They were full with water and started to rust. The pressure was high enough to press the water inside of the bearings and the temperature in the garage was low enough that the water was for a long time in the bearings until it disappeared.
Since this time I don´t wash my bike anymore. I prefer to spend a few bucks to my kids if they clean the bike or I clean it by myself by hand.
By the way, I like your ideas to cover the handle bar switches and the speedo with plastic bags. It´s easy and it will help.
All the best!
