Anyone ever use a Roadmax Transmission?

I'm looking for a 6spd RSD trans for my new project. Anyone ever use a Roadmax or heard anything about them? I have a guy telling me he has one with 4k miles on it out of a Bourget. He says it was upgraded to a Baker and is in perfect condition. The price is only $450.
Thanks in advance.

They are a Korean trans and I have heard they are somewhat of a disposable unit. But $450 for a right side drive I would say is worth a chance even if you get a year or two out of it.

Thanks Alhall. I can get a new Polished 6spd RSD Ultima trans for $550 shipped but....they are built in China unlike their engines that are built in USA. That makes me a little leary....

Mario, I have put about 4000 miles on one of these in my Red Chop. All Chromed, no problems, shifts great. Granted mine was a left side drive but they make right also. I think I paid about $800 when parts were higher. Might have to call them for current price.

I don't know about Roadmax but I wouldn't be afraid of one like mine or even Ultima trannys.

My friends roadmax went out at 13k in his AIH. It cost $1,000 to have it rebuilt and we took it out and installed it.

For $450 its hard to go wrong but The Horse magazine just did a write up on the Roadmax comparing it to the Baker and it's weaker on everything

You can buy a used baker on ebay for about $1300 with probably 3,000 miles on it

Thanks Shovel. I'll give them a call today.

TCALZO6- I hear ya but.....$850 more for the baker would kill my budget. I'd rather put the money into a decent motor right now and the cheaper trans than run a 1340 with a baker.....

I put an Ultima in my friend's Bourget 2 years ago and no issues so far. Hard to justify buying a Baker when you can get an Ultima for 1/4 the price. His old tranny was a Jims and the only issue I had was the Ultima is physically a larger unit. I had to grind the case a little to get clearance but it's been working great. For shits and giggles I put the Ultima guts into the smaller Jims case and it seemed to fit fine, but I never ran it that way as the Jims failed catastrophically and a chunk of gear blew a 1/4" hole in the bottom!

A friend of my had Redneck built him a bike with a 124 Kendall Johnson engine and they used a Roadmax transmission, he's had tons of issues but not with the tranny so far.......

I got a RSD 6 spd roadmax in my dog now, came from shovelheadkicker on e-bay, out of an American IronHorse, low miles in description...installed for about 3 months now, I need to change out the main-shaft from my Baker then I will reinstall the Baker and have a spare, one thing about the roadmax is that it doesn't have a speed sensor hole in the housing so I have no speedo or trip meter to monitor the gas  , gotta guesstimate the miles or fill-up more often :bang: no problems yet but will switch it out as soon as I repair the Baker

Thanks everyone. I ended up going with a black and chrome Ultima 6 spd RSD for $550 shipped and a 2 year, 20k mile warranty. Couldn't pass that warranty up.....

Now I just need a bigger motor. Anyone???
